Warning Cuteness Ahead

Meet Mei Mei the newest member of our family.

A fuzzy ball of mischief and cuddles.

Angelgirl named her Mei Mei last night. Today we looked up the name, it means: “little sister” in Chinese! Who knew? But it is so perfect. And now my little China Girl has a fuzzy little sister.

Lady Rose gets official royal title

By now you all know of my “odd” sense of humor and tendency to be silly. I think today I reached a new height! But I just could NOT resist (and it made me smile and feel all giddy inside).

I happened to find this ebay auction to own a small piece of land (with salmon and fishing rights too!) that entitles you tothe official title of ”Lord or Lady” – well I just HAD to have this little piece of land in the Scottish Highlands. I will be receiving all the paperwork soon, in the meantime take a look at where my spacious one square foot lovely estate is located (in Lochaber, the heart of the Highlands of Scotland).

I will be assembling my “ladies in waiting” shortly.

What have you done that is silly? What makes you happy? I’d love here what makes you smile and brightens your day.

Hope everyone has a happy, healthy, and fun day, Lady Rose (refusing to be a grown up all the time)

13 Tidbits of Daily Life

thank you to Retta for the above graphic

13 things about Mama Kelly this week

  1. Those who read my blog regularly will know this, but I am back in college at the age of 38 and while I feel totally overwhelmed from time to time I am loving it.  My 2 major classes are Cultural Anthropology and Human Geography …. I am also taking a beginner Computer Literacy course because it is a graduation requirement.  The first two are challenging and often really interesting.  The latter is gouge my eyes out of my head boring.
  2. My goal is to get a teaching certificate and become a grammar school teacher.  I would ideally be teaching kids in 3rd or 4th grade and hopefully get done with school and hired before I am 45.  Bear in mind that I can only go to school part-time as I have to work full-time to keep the family covered under medical insurance.
  3. Unfortunately my health issues preclude my ever …. EVER …. again going without insurance coverage.  One of my medical issues neurofibromatosis puts me at a higher than the general population risk for brain tumors and cancer.
  4. Right now I am reading Pride & Prejudice at a friend’s recommendation.  Somehow I never got around to reading it.  I am only a couple of chapters in but I am enjoying it.  Not in a “fall into a good book” way but ….. I like it nonetheless.
  5. On another note I was browsing through some old word docs today and found some freewrite pieces I did almost exactly 2 years ago.  I still have the dream of one day writing a book but with work and school and family it is definately on the back back burner until things settle down in a couple of years (or so).  A lot of it is crap, some of it, even now, still made me want to continue the story.
  6. Harry Potter madness is in full force in our family.  We are planning to go out to the opening day showing of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix with hubby and the girls.  I am also planning to have a couple of women from work (one my age, the other 22) tag along with us just to make it festive.
  7. I am also attempting to clear my entire weekend schedule for the release of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.  I may be a “grownup” but I am awaiting the release with so much anticipation that I am practically salivating over savoring (who am I kidding? ….. inhaling!) 784 pages of gooey goodness!!!!  This will require doing homework, papers,  as well as my 4th exam in my online course in advance.
  8. One of my favorite TV shows right now is Big Love.  The story is convoluted and juicy.  The characters are rich and diverse and easy to feel passionately about (love or hate).  Plus, while in the context of plural marriage, it deals with many of the same issues that face most marriages …. money, sex, trust, kids, etc.
  9. There was a time in my life … prior to marrying my husband…. where I wondered if I could be in a polyamorous relationship.
  10. A devastating 3-some later I realized that I never wanted to “go there” again.
  11. I also love Rescue Me which I realize doesn’t seem to “fit” with my other favorite show.
  12. But it shares the complex plotlines and rich characters.  Additionally, I find it particularly amusing how the main character Tommy interacts with ghosts that noone else can hear or see often with comedic results.
  13. A recent addition to my spiritual life is a set of Goddess Prayer Beads (a Pagan Rosary if you will) which oddly enough came from a Lutheran church group.  I have, instead of using the prayers they suggest, taken to assigning chants to each of the bead types.  I use my prayer beads in bed and have on a couple of occasions fallen asleep with them held in my hands.  I will be posting more about this soon.

Blessings

Kitten ALERT!

Oh no it’s evil cuteness could not be resisted.

***resistance is futile you will take me home***

Hubby insisted we wait to bring it home until Thursday – giving us tonight to get the house in order – yeah right, like that will happen. But at least we can do the obvious like take down the now sagging Harry Potter balloons tied to the stair railing and remove breakable items from the fireplace mantle. Plus there is shopping for the obvious kitty accessories (there is NO such thing as a FREE kitty!) – so tonight its off to buy litter pan, litter, scoop, hair ball medicine (mmmm…why am I getting this kitten again – oh yeah – it’s soooooooo adorable!), back to the shopping list… food dish, water dish, various toys, and oh my - now why did I have to find this on the internet…

Outdoor Cat Playpen.

Cat Genie (a flushable toilet?)

now they are just being silly – the folding Pet Stroller!

So be prepared for Kitten updates on a regular basis – you may have noticed I get obsessive about things from time to time – luckily I have the attention span of a gnat so it wears off pretty quick and I should be over it soon and back to posting about more witchy things. But cats are sorta of witchy!

No idea what we are naming it – we are leaving that up to Angelgirl. The kitten will be “her” first pet (to be enjoyed by all of us, but we let her decide if she wanted it, and the primary responsibility and the naming).

I wish I had thought to bring my daughter’s digital camera along last night for a photo – but didn’t even think of it. (Her camara was only $89 and it is terrific – Samsung – I forget the model).

Now we just have to hope our dear sweet very old and deaf dog won’t be too upset with us for bringing home a kitten.

Bright Blessings, Lady Rose

Help Rita Moran and Apple Valley Books

I read about this on Hecate’s Blog … who read about it at The Wild Hunt.  I share it with you here.

Rita Moran is the Chair of the Kennebec County Democratic Committee in Maine. She runs a local bookstore, Apple Valley Books, that sells Pagan books

Recently, The Christian Civic League has put up a web page with information about Moran’s political postition and her religious beliefs, including Moran’s address, phone numbers, and e-mail addresses.

They are quoted as saying

Perhaps most disturbing of all is the involvement of Moran’s Apple Valley Books store in promoting her pagan-worshipping beliefs to Maine’s children.”

These same people claim that they work:

  • to encourage all the people of Maine in good citizenship

  • to elect honest and competent public officials
  • to enact good laws and provide for their impartial enforcement

Good citizenship?!?!?!?

Impartiality?!?!?!?

They also claim to believe in ethical guidelines such as :

The power to live in the light means the freedom to live openly and honestly in the sight of God and one another. No darkness, no deceit, no hiddenness, no motivations by fear, no ulterior agendas.

and

The power to love enemies means our recognition that those who oppose our persons or positions, in any capacity, nonetheless deserve respect as image-bearers of God. It also means that we renounce any dehumanizing language or actions in our political partisanships

No ulterior agendas?

Respecting even those that disagree?

You know the movie The Princess Bride?  The line …. “you keep using that word .. I do not think it means what you think it means” ….. well it comes to mind right about now.

Anyway ….. this post is not about hypocrisy.  It is about asking for your assistance to a pagan who was guilty of nothing more than living an honest open life and earning a fair and honest wage doing something she loves.

Since that time donations to the Democratic comittee and sales in her bookstore have suffered.   Their website states that they will order ”just about any book in print” and will even gift wrap for no charge upon request.

Blessings

Pentacle Dedication by VA

Pentacle Dedication – Veteran’s Administration

(09:59)

For the first time in American history, a military memorial plaque bearing a Wiccan pentacle has been placed in a veterans cemetery.

Related Post (also a video): Symbol, the pentacle song (2006), the inspiration for the song was the death of a soldier and his wife’s request that a pentacle be used on her husband’s memorial placque.

The craziness that is my life

I have like a zillion things I need to do and never enough time – but do I do them – most of the time nope – so I always feel like I’m trying to catch up. I’m working on it – not doing more, just not feeling bad about it. After all, if I’m going to be lazy and relax I might as well enjoy it.

So instead of house cleaning, sorting boxes, packing away the winter clothes, etc. this weekend I instead I am working on blogging stuff, catching up on visiting other blogs, and enjoying some time with my family.

The BIG news is I ordered a digital camera. Yep, I can’t believe it myself. I finally took the plunge. It is a Sony Cybershop W80 (with the new W90 out this year the W80 was on sale). Since I wanted it in black (not silver) I have to wait for the store to order it – so 3 to 9 days before it’s in my hot little hands. I figure spending that kind of money I’ll wait to get the color I really want (with extra battery, carrying case, memory card, and 4 year protection warranty $476).

If I actually learn to use this one, blogging life will never be the same. Though I have had two before over the years, I never did figure them out and they are lost some where in the house (they were much cheaper ones though).

We are all going to meet a little kitten tomorrow – I am hoping by then I come to my senses and I am able to resist its furry cuteness – I really really really don’t want a kitten. So why am I going to see one – cause I’m insane! Totally wacko out of my mind 100% certifiable! But I have a soft spot for fuzzy cuteness. One of the karate instructor’s had it’s picture up when we took Angelgirl to class over the weekend. The kitten was found at a home way out in the middle of no where stuck in a crawl space — it was hungry and scared but didn’t seem to be a wild stray – so it may have just been dumped. Not only would it be sorta of a “karate” kitty, but what a heart breaking story. I don’t know whether to hope I come to my senses or Teacherman says NO way, NO cat or to hope we get to bring it home.

Oh well, I’ll let you all know how this kitty drama turns out. **shudders at the thought of litter pans and even more animal hair**

Offer Up Each Breath and Thought

Dear and beloved stranger,
Please eat this food with us
that we may all be nourished.
Please share this walk with us
that we may all know nature’s peace.
Please rest in this warm house
that we may come to know each other.
Please sleep under these soft blankets
that we may all know safety.
Please pray this prayer
that all our names of God
may guide us on.

kything – christina baldwin – 2003

According to Wikipedia, kything is based on an old Scottish word which means “to make visible.”

Madeleine L’Engle used the word kything to describe a type of mind-to-mind communication found in titles in her Wrinkle in Time series. Robert Heinlen uses the word grok in a similar fashion in the book Stranger in a Strange Land.

I read this “prayer” for the first time today. I looked up kything and apart from the above references I came across its use as a term in regards to a Roman Catholic prayer movement, there is even a book about it, Kything: The Art of Spiritual Presence.

From what I can tell it seems to be less a prayer perse than it is a work of spirit in that instead of speaking to the Divine, it is calling for a merging of souls. A way to attempt to link up with the spirit of another and by so doing enrich both of your existances.

It made me think … it connects with a very Pagan attitude that “everything is sacred” … your body, your breath, washing the dishes, etc. It seems to me that a prayer like this allows you to almost make your daily life a way to bring blessings to others. Your actions become something you “offer up” so that someone else may know that simple pleasure.

It spoke to me.

May we all be blessed!!!
