Losing My Marbles – Losing My Mind – Striving to Study all of Mankind

I have spent the bulk of my “homework time” in the past 2 days studying for my next unit test in Human Geography. I have taken page after page of typed notes on the Sub-Saharan Africa, Northern Africa, and Southwestern Asia. I have watched an hour of course video that is so packed with info (and annoyingly has a format that does not allow an effective pause) that I kept have to stop and add to my notes.

While I earned a “high B” on my last exam I am determined to earn a “solid A” on this one so that I can maintain my A average and hopefully leave this semester (from hell it is I tell you) with a 4.0.

I am about 97% done with my project in Computer Literacy project and am finding that my only stumbling block is tweaking a formula that (while provided by the instructor) doesn’t quite work 100%.

My goal is to wake up in the morning, watch another hour of video (while sipping coffee), and take the multiple choice portion of my exam. Then I plan to go through some of the topics highlighted in the unit overview for about an hour before starting the essay portion of the exam. While these tests are open-book/open-note they are strictly timed and so I have to be somewhat of a bitch when someone wants my attention during those times.

It never fails. No one talks to me or needs me for hours … but put me in front of my computer with a timer counting down the minutes remaining in my test and

  • the kids will start screaming right outside the screen door to the backyard
  • the kids will start asking me questions about lunch, snacks, or the nature of the Universe
  • my father will decide its the right time for small talk
  • my husband will want to engage me in conversation

Somehow all of them fail to notice

  • the glazed (crazed?) look in my eye
  • the frantic typing, textbook flipping and note reading
  • the vague muttering to myself that erupts when writing an essay
  • the hands making the universal waving gesture for “GO AWAY”

Additionally, my plans tomorrow (and late Sunday) include working on my Cultural Anthropology class. I need to fill out a study guide ….. and study it for an exam on Tuesday (I earned 100% on the previous exam). Additionally, I want to complete a reading assignment and typed Q&A to hand in and also start working on 2 short papers that are due in the upcoming weeks.

Sisters One and All

In lieu of my usual bit of prayer or poetry that begins my weekly foray into taking time for gratitude I share this bit from Lady Rose …….

During the closing circle at Womongathering a song kept going around in my head , I was pretty sure I’d never heard it before (Mama Kelly even googled the lyrics to be on the safe side).  I can’t sing at all, but Mama Kelly was kind enough to get it up on the blog (Listen to it here) while we were together visiting this weekend.  It is dedicated to all the wonderful women at Womon Gathering. It was a pleasure and an honor to have spent time with each and every one of you.

“Women of beauty
Women of healing
Women of power
We honor you one and all

Women of beauty
Women of healing
Women of power
We thank you one and all

Women of beauty
Women of healing
Women of power
Sisters one and all”

sung by Mama Kelly (forgive me where I go a bit flat)

So this week we are each grateful for the experience of Womongathering and the promise of our return in 2009.  We are also each grateful for the presence of each other in our lives.  We are grateful for daughters who are growing “in beauty and in strength”.  We are grateful for Reiki glow, Reiki guides, and the insanity that the two together inspire.

And also, we are grateful to all of our readers and friends.

Bright Blessings to all

Merry meet, merry part, and merry meet again
(at next year’s Womon Gathering!)

Mislaying My Inner Witch

::warning, whine ahead::

Today will be a good day.  No matter what else happens today brings with it the gift and blessing of a visit from Lady Rose.  If the Gods are kind my father will spend part of the day elsewhere and I will be able to put some Witchy music on the stereo.  If the Gods are less kind I will have to be satisfied with generic Celtic music which, while wonderful, is not going to be quite as satisfying.  The plan is to work out some ideas for the eventual move of 2Witches to its own domain.  Talk about layout, design, widgets, and future content.  One thing we hope to launch once the new domain is up and running is some youtube content of our own.  We also plan to start including more and more snapshots of daily life with photos and have created a new photobucket (with handy dandy little subfolders) so that we can start compiling a nice collection of content.

We also plan to do some Reiki practice and I know without doubt that love and laughter will abound.

In other news while Lady Rose has found new energy and deep restoring rest (and the explosion of creativitity and inspiration they trigger) since our return from Womongathering, I on the other hand have fallen into quite a deep little funk.  It began with a chronic pain flare, triggered by too much vegetarian fare (high fiber is no fun when by all rights I should be on some variation of a low residue diet) and a return to exhaustion when I no longer had endorphins pumping high enough to offset my insomnia and fatigue issues.

I do not know how to explain it other than reality seems to hurt more now.  I am bright enough to know that this is probably a good thing (in the long term eventually kind of way) as it indicates that I am less numb than I was when I left on my trip.  The problem is that I do not know if I am ready to face all the negative feelings I have been hiding from and therefore began shutting down again almost as soon as I came back home.

The other hard part is having to go back into the broomcloset, and after 4 days of feeling free and witchy I have to say that it feels more cramped than when I last left it.  I am working on that though.  I found on WItchvox that a new circle was forming in my very own neck of the woods and I have emailed the founder.

So heres to using today as a fresh start.  To begin anew in using the beauty of Womongathering to inspire me to be a better Witch, to be a better Priestess, to be a better me.

Blessings

Some Highlights of Womongathering 2008

By far the best highlights of Womon Gathering are the awesome womyn you meet there. And of course the many wonderful classes and activities going on over the four days of the event.

But there are also fun places and sacred spaces to visit, meditate, journal or to hang out, or meet and chat with other womyn.

Gateway – each year the gateway is decorated for the element that is the theme for that year. Excerpt from Womongathering Program: “…a place between the worlds. A sacred place for releasing what you wise to leave behind, grounding and centering yourself before yourself before enterning the joy and community that is Womon Gathering.”

Mama Kelly: This was a wonderful way to start our time at Womongathering. The theme this year was water and the gateway was home to a large crystal singing bowl which carried further than I would’ve thought. Next year I would probably pop my head in there as well in between classes and such instead of just passing through it (and pausing there briefly) the one time only.

Sacred Fire – The sacred fire is watched over by the Fire Tenders. This year the center included not only the fire but also a pond of water. Outside the circle were various ways to “cleanse” – such as sage, blessed water, tuning forks, singing bowls. We entered from the Southeast, walking the figure 8 (eternity symbol) around first the pond and then the fire. Around the sacred fire was a circle honoring the 8 directions. Excerpt from the Womon Gathering Program: “Fire and Water ally to transform personal and collective self in our vibrant wimmin spirit communites.” (Note: no photos are allowed of this area.)

Mama Kelly: As I’ve said before I want one of these!!! It was so glorious to simply walk into sacred space whenever the spirit called me to do so. To sit and let the heat from the fire permeate my body and to watch the sparks flying moved me more than I can say.

Red Temple (Moonlodge) – sacred womb-moon space for all womyn to gather and share wisdom. Excerpt from Womon Gathering Program: “…a space to honor the sanctity of womyn’s experience of merarche, menstruation, and menopause. All womyn, no matter where on their menstrual or life cycle are welcome.”

Mama Kelly: We are hoping that Miss Artistic will enjoy this. We did not visit it during our time at Womongathering but many of the women we were blessed enough to meet had nothing but good things to say about it.

Sweat Lodge – The sweat lodge ceremony is held a couple of times throughout the four days of the gathering, and some are for those who are attending the ceremony for the first time. The lodge represents the womb of Mother Earth. Excerpt from Womon Gathering Program: “…the purification ceremony assists us in renewing and reconnecting our mind, body and spirit.” We did not attend a sweat lodge this year, but it is on our list of things to consider for next year. (Note: there is no extra cost for the sweat lodge, you just need to reserve your spot when you send in your registration. If not, you can check when you arrive to see if there are any openings.)

Mama Kelly: For me its less about considering and more about finding the extra funds. Ive always felt called to do a ritual sweat and Womongathering is certainly a safe place to do that.

Gyrl Space – a place just for young girls, where they can register for special activities, arts and crafts, classes, and ceremonies that are planned for young girls of all ages; some were ages 5 and up; others were ages 10 and up.

Mama Kelly: Watching all the younglings wandering around did pull my heart a bit and cause me to miss my own two girls. Looking over the class schedule made me realize that they could easily have come with me and would have had activities that would appeal to them. I am looking forward to Princess Nibbles being able to spend time at GyrlSpace when she comes to Womongathering in 2010, the summer before she turns 11.

Lake – We didn’t visit the lake this year, but we heard it is awesome. Swimming and boating is allowed when the lifeguard is on duty.

Witches Grove – a lovely spot in the woods. We didn’t get to this area this year, but we did notice it on the map and plan to visit next year.

Give Away Table – this is a spot where womyn bring items and books they no longer need or want to give away (in good weather it is outside in the marketplace and if there is rain it is set up on table inside the Dining Hall). Everyone is welcome to browse and to give and take. Now that we know about it, next year Mama Kelly and I will definitely be bringing a lot of items for the give away table.

Mama Kelly: As this summer will find me clearing through an awful lot of clutter I am sure I can pack a nice box full of give-aways, including children’s books that my own girls have outgrown.

Marketplace – this is the area set up outside the Dining Hall where the various vendors (and body workers) have their wares set up and also where you will find the Communications Center (lost and found, information, schedule\class updates, etc.). It is a lively area and a fun place to mingle or just hang out in one of the shaded (or in the sun) chairs and picnic benches.

Vendor Spotlight – Divine Dangles

Divine Dangles – Goddess eye adornments by Loona

There were many wonderful vendors at Womon Gathering. However, there wasn’t time or energy to interview each and every one. So we chose to highlight one vendor who’s wares and spirit “called” to us from the very first day and we felt ourselves drawn back again and again to browse her wares.

Loona - creator of Divine Dangles (Goddess Eye adornments)
(703) 525-9650 loona3@onebox.com
(also creates wooden wands, staffs, talking sticks, ceramic mirrors, altars & prayer boxes and carved/painted gourdware; and welcomes phone calls for custom orders)

Below are 2 photos with a few of her Divine Dangles – I just wish my camera could take better photos so everyone could see just how beautiful these are. Each one is different. The main bead being the Goddess Eye and each strand is unique with a variety of other beads added to bring the piece alive. She will do custom pieces, just call to discuss what you are looking for and place an order:

How the Goddess Eye Divine Dangles came about – Loona travelled to Turkey and discovered the powerful protection of the “Goddess eye” (also called “evil eye” in some cultures) through a personal experience she had. While holding an “eye”, she fell, the “eye” shattered but she was unhurt. From that experience she received an inspiration to learn more about the “eye” and create the lovely “divine dangles” for others. The “Goddess eye” protects and absorbs negativity so it doesn’t affect you. It can be hung from a car mirror, around the house, near a bed, over a crib, in a cubicle at work, or any where you feel the need to have the protection of the “Goddess eye.”

She has also recently added to mirrors and prayer boxes (see photo below).

Loona is a delightful woman who’s spirit and heart shine brightly. We enjoyed meeting her and her friend who was also there helping to run the booth. I even found myself waking up one morning, sketching and taking notes with tons of inspiration and ideas – however, it was not for me or Mama Kelly, but it was for Loona. I was hestitant at first to pass the message along, but after all it wasn’t my message so I took the notes and sketches to Loona and told her to feel free to think I was crazy. She didn’t think I was crazy at all, but did need a little help reading my handwriting. I am not sure who sent the message, but she was genuinely pleased and thankful for the inspirational notes.

There is a lot of love and spirit in her work, and we feel we can definitely recommend her wares.

Bright Blessings, Lady Rose and Mama Kelly

Vendors At Womongathering

Womon Gathering 2008:  The Marketplace is a lively area right outside the dining hall, surrounded by trees with areas to sit scattered around. We browsed the vendors a little each day and drooled over lovely wares, but managed to stay within our planned budgets. There was a booth for massage and another for hair cuts. We saw beautiful Yoni art work, handmade dolls, pottery, jewelry and much more.

Mama Kelly: I would really like to see us able to afford massages next year. Bare butt naked with the breeze blowing softly over your body with the leaves rustling overhead. Sigh!!!

My first purchase was a lovely skirt and top made of gauze-like material with a spiral pattern, purple of course. Usually I like to browse for a day or two before making purchases, but since it was the only one like it I bought it the very first day. I had Angelgirl on the phone Saturday as I walked around describing some of the items so she could pick out something for me to bring home for her. She chose a lovely handmade cloth hat, the fabric has a celestial pattern from Mosa Mimi Baczewska (website under construction). I also got myself a purple tie-dyed tshirt with a beautiful silk-screeend tree-of-life image on the front from Willow Moon Designs. And I picked up a few littles thing – magnets for me, Angelgirl and Mama Kelly and her daughters, a snake pin (which I gave to Mom when I got home), a bag of sage, and a cd of chants (by Marie Summerwood, see photo and link below).

Mama Kelly: I came home with 2 rainbow-clay goddess charms to string on cord for my girls, a brimmed cap (in a multi-color pattern) for Miss Artistic (from the same shop that AngelGirl’s hat came from), and a Tie-Dye Tshirt for Princess Nibbles. For myself I purchased a chant CD and a Labradorite egg. Also with a bag of sage, thanks to Lady Rose’s generosity.

Here are some photos fo the Marketplace at Womongathering 2008:

Marie Summerwood (her CDs and herbal wares) – wise womon handmade herbal tinctures, salves, oils, lip balm and her cds. Also colorful fabric serpent familiars, small snakelet pins and barrettes.

Links to some of the other vendors Mama Kelly was able to find for some of the vendors

Warped & Twisted – wraps, shawls, scrafs, hand-spun wool.
K Robins Sculpture – symbolic silver jewelry.
Mama Donna’s Spirit Shop – magents, charms, goddess images, and more. (who was unavailable to attend this year due to surgery.)
Moonien Arts Studio – sacred objects and art, spiritual tools and instruments, salt Goddesses.
Spiral Moon Boutique – exotic gifts and apparel to entice body, mind and spirit.
Sweetwater Pottery – stoneware and porcelain dinnerware, lamps, vases, drums, ritual plates and chalices.

Mama Kelly: So those of you planning on attending next year, start saving some pennies now. As you can see the wares can be very tempting. Also know that there are “free boxes and tables” at Womongathering. You are free to take form you want from these areas and invited to leave those things which no longer serve a place in your life and you are ready to let go of. Books, pagan periodicals, crystals, sealed snackfoods, what have you.

Classes At Womongathering

Womongathering 2008 – There are a variety of classes to choose from throughout the day at Womongathering and sometimes there are new classes added or changes made to the schedule (announcements are made at meal times and signs are posted on the dining hall door). We decided we didn’t have to fill every single minute of our time and focused on just a few classes that we really wanted to take – a drumming class and the three levels of Essential Reiki.

Thursday evening after dinner – Drum with the Flow Part I Instructor: Beverly Nadleman. This class was a good introduction to the basics of drumming – how to create various tones, how to hit the drum properly with your hand. We had brought small drums, but the instructor was teaching how to use big drums and had plenty on hand for those who needed to borrow one. It was a bit more involved then I had anticipated, but everything was explained very clearly and we got to practice several different kinds of rhythms (3 beat, 4 beat, and a 5 beat and a really fun one where for one beat you hit the drum of the person next to you). The Reiki classes we planned to take overlapped with Part II of the drumming class that was scheduled the next day, but having the introduction class was just right for us and a great way to start off our four days at Womon Gathering.

Mama Kelly: I really got into this class, more than I had even anticipated. So much so that I wound up with bruises on the underside of 2 of my fingers. Now this didn’t distress me at all, I bruise fairly easily. What surprised me was how quickly they resolved as generally bruises hang around for a week or more. Within 2 days they were completely gone and I give full credit to all the energy work Lady Rose & I were doing with our Reiki classes.

Classes held Friday afternoon, Saturday and Sunday mornings – Essential Reiki I, II, and III Instructor: Francena Marie Hancock (apprenticed and taught with Diane Stein). From the start of the first class we both knew that learning Reiki was exactly what we needed at this time in our lives. It was even more meaningful for us to be taking the class from a Reiki master who also has a background in wicca. Reiki is a gentle and powerful healing tool that we are able to bring home and use for ourselves, our families, and the Earth. All three levels and attunements are given during the course of the weekend. Our homework is to practice self reiki each day for at least 40 days. It was also recommended that we get the book Essential Reiki by Diane Stein (my copy should be arriving in the next day or two).

Mama Kelly: I already received my copy of Essential Reiki and gave it a quick read through. I am looking forward to reading it in more depth, especially to start exploring how to “program” a crystal using Reiki symbols. As I’ve mentioned in other posts I have been a bit lax about using my Reiki self-treatments but I have had great success with my younger daughter’s headaches.

Brief summary of Reiki basics: Reiki is life force energy and can do no harm. The energy goes where it is needed, trust the spirit of the person to direct and use the energy in the way that is right for them. We are all healers, what the attunements add is to open the person to be a channel for even more of the life force to pass through them (each attunement opening wider and wider) by placing the Reiki symbols in the auric filed.

In Essential Reiki all three attunements are given in the same weekend (rather then weeks or months apart as in other Reiki traditions). Each student works at the Reiki I level, and practices learning the symbols and moves on to working at the Reiki II level when they are ready, and then working and practicing at level II until they are ready to begin working at the Reiki III level.

***************

Mama Kelly and I will be practicing daily self Reiki and with our families, and when we get together for our monthly visits we will do Reiki for each other. It is our plan to be able to teach Reiki in the not too distant future and to also be able to hold regular Reiki share get togethers. Reiki is a positive asset all on it’s own but it is also a complimentary tool that can be used with other forms of healing, magic, and wiccan or spiritual practices. We will keep our readers informed and updated as our work progresses.

Mama Kelly: I am looking forward to the energy work that Lady Rose & I will be adding to our visits. I want us to pick up some kind of small globes so that we can use it as a visual to send Reiki healing to the earth itself.

There was one other class we were going to take – but as posted in our Summary of Saturday at Womon Gathering, for some reason we had it in our heads the class started at 2:45 pm when it actually started at 2:00 (even after both of us had looked over the program several times). The class was Mystic Maps (instructor: Eclipse Fey) – a mystic’s appraoch to charting your course across the psychic seas of your hopes and dreams, using divination tools, psychic skills, and energy building techniques. We took it as a sign from the Goddess, spirit guides or who\what ever that we ended up where we needed to be instead of the class. There is always next year, and we will be able to explore different classes and experiences.

Sunday at Womon Gathering

Happy, refreshed, and renewed and looking forward to Womon Gathering 2009.
Mama Kelly and Lady Rose – wearing the shawls I crocheted for us

5 am. I was up and wide awake.  I strolled over to the dining hall to see if I could get an early cup of coffee and journal a bit (so I wouldn’t disturb the others in my cabin still asleep).  Instead I helped in the kitchen till 7 a.m.  I can’t tell you how good it felt to be useful.  I was at first a bit hesitant to offer to help since with my knees (arthritis) I usually can’t stand very long.  Not only was my help very much appreciated, but it was very much needed.  I was able to sit while filling dozens of water pitchers with ice and water.  I took my time and used the rolling cart to place them on the long tables in the dining hall, while at the same time setting out the salt and pepper shakers.  After that I helped out stirring the oatmeal and cooked fruit toppings while sitting near the stove, which freed up other folks to make pancakes and other breakfast chores.

At 7 a.m. I bid the wonderful ladies in the kitchen farewell, and made a cup of coffee to bring to Mama Kelly.  She wanted to be sure to get up early today to have time to visit the sacred fire before breakfast and class started.

Mama Kelly: This was probably one of the best cups of coffee I have tasted ever mainly because I needed it so desperately.  Not just to compensate for lack of sleep, but to help encourage my dysfunctional digestive system to attempt to cope with more fiber than it had seen in the past 6 months.

Lady Rose: perhaps the extra boost in flavor was the Reiki love added, (or it could have been the 99 packets of spenda and cup full of powered vanilla flavored creamor I added  *** hehehe just kidding ***)

It was important to us to spend some quiet time this morning at the Sacred Fire.  It was a spiritual place between the worlds to connect with the Goddess, Mother Earth, our spirit guides, and the quiet voices within.  We wanted to soak in as much as we could to be able to keep the wonderful gift of spirit and openess with us and be able to bring it home and share it with our families and friends.   We gathered up our crystals and other belongings that we had left within the circle for blessing and left our offerings to the Goddess in gratitude for the awesome experiences of the weekend.

Breakfast and lunch were the left overs from the meals from the previous days so we got to taste all our favorites again.

In the morning we took the Reiki III class.  I really can’t put into words the feelings, energy, and experience of these classes.  I know, without a doubt, that it was meant to be and just exactly what my heart and spirit needed to be doing.  I am looking forward to next year so we can join in the Reiki share!    After class we got to take a group photo with our teacher.  (Note: out of respect for the womyn attending we are not posting the photos)

After lunch we attended the Closing Circle at the Sacred Fire.  It was a quiet ceremony and a sharing of gratitude to all the womyn who contributed to making Womon Gathering happen.  Small tinfoil packets of ash from the fire surrounded the fire pit, and we were welcome to take one home with us for our altars and home fires.  On the way out of the circle our Reiki teacher was there so we were able to share one more hug.

(Note: We will be posting more details about the rituals and classes separately.)

Afterwards is was time to take some last minute photos and pack up everything.  Once that was taken care of, I walked up to get the car (parked outside the camp grounds) while Mama Kelly started bringing our stuff from the cabin to the side of the road.  I turned on the cd (“we all come from the Goddess chant)  as I drove slowly to our cabin, waving and smiling to our new friends along the way.

The ride home was to say the least “interesting.”  As we came to the first small town we decided to change cds from the one we had driven into womon gathering with to something a bit more lively.  As the cd came out the radio came on with a male voice booming a hellfire type sermon from the pulpit (it was Sunday after all), well we just fell over laughing.  My eyes were watering so hard and I could barely breath, so I had to pull over into the first parking lot I came too.

Mama Kelly:  We were laughing so hard, readers, that we were certain that the manager of the Dunkin’ Donuts who’s parking lot we made use of was going to call the police.  The thought of having to explain our hysteria to the cops only pushed us further over the edge.  I mean, what could we possibly have said?

“Sorry officer, we just spent the weekend frolicking in the woods trancing and chanting.  We haven’t had any meat in 3 days and our satellite navigation system seems to have been taken over by either fairies or our Reiki guides.”

We decided to try out the satellite naviagation system (“Never Lost”) that was in the car – it had been included for free.  ”Never Lost” shortly after we were on the road told us to make a trun off the road we were on that ended up to be a deadend in parking lots, and when we turned around to get back to the main road it then took us to an apartment complex parking lot. A couple of times it would say  - “route impossible”  which just had us cracking up.  But within a short time, we did find our own way back on to the main road we needed.

Later in the journey we ran into a traffic jam which held us up about 30 minutes or so - no idea what was the cause, but we simply turned up the cd player and danced in the car and I’ve sure the other folks just thought we insane, but we didn’t care.  We took the opportunity to call home with an estimated time of arrival.

Once we reached the turnpike it was then just a straight ride (or should have been) for about two hours until we reached the exit that would be very close to my house.  However, ”Never Lost” had a message for us!  The first message told us to get off at exit 18 so we did, it then directed us to circle around right back on to the turnpike.  It then immeidately instructed us to get off at exit 20, so we once again followed along and as we exited it, it immediately had us circle right around back on to the turnpike.  By the third time we just got off the exit it told us too and had to stop at a convenience store because we had to go to the bathroom really really really badly by that point.  We each got a bit of refreshment, mine being a big cup of coffee. While in the store we ended getting another “giggle attack” (I’m sure the store clerk thought we were completely nuts or drunk).  We had to sit in the parking lot for at least 15 minutes because we couldn’t stop laughing, snorting and giggling, eyes watering – it was a mess   LOL.  We decided that the Goddess didn’t think we had circled enough at Womon Gathering, so we had to circle some more which is why “Never Lost” had us circling round the exits.  We decided to call home to let our hubbies know that we would be a little later then expected but we were laughing too hard to talk much.  I tried to explain what had happned with “Never Lost”, and my hubby was trying to tell me that “naviagation systems don’t work that way.”  That just had us laughing even harder. Once we could finally breath and see again, and the laughter had calmed a bit we got back to our journey home.   We could see the signs down the road to get back on the turnpike, so we had to make a right first out of the parking lot, find a spot to make a u-turn (which we did in a mall parking lot) and got back on track.  We turned off “Never Lost”  and decided we would follow our noses, our intuition, and the directions we had printed out and trusted that we could get ourselves home.

Once back at my house, we entered singing and giggling.  Mama Kelly’s hubby and two daughters were there too.   We were both greeted by our families, and lots of hugs and smiles.  We did collapse into a fit of the giggles once more which had our hubbies and children looking strangely at us.  But they love us and patiently waited for us to be able to stand upright and breathe again.  We got Mama Kelly things loaded up in her car.  Shared lots of hugs and bid everyone a good night.

More posts about Womon Gathering will be coming for the next few days.

Bright Blessings,

Falling Into a Funk

“I am the light and the thoughts in your mind,
I am the sight in your eyes,
I am the life in your body,
I am the feelings you feel in your heart.
I am always at work in your life for your greater good,
although you may not always believe this”

excerpted from God’s Love by Paul Mastromarino
found on World Prayers

As some of you may have guessed, based on my unusually quiet nature since returning from Womongathering I fell into a little bit of a funk.  It seems impossible that we left only a week ago, it already seems so far away.

Now granted I have been lax about doing much of anything spiritual since I’ve come home.  I fell right back into my lazy ways.  I have not been using my prayer beads – though I hope to change that tonight.  I have not been doing my Reiki self-treatments (other than a few times) though I have used it a few times to help Princess Nibbles with headaches.

I’m feeling not depressed but apathetic.  I hope to find a way to reconect to that wonderful feeling that I grasped at Womongathering.

But for now I am grateful for:

  • Friends.  For Lady Rose who I’ll be seeing again this coming Saturday. For M who is moving a bit closer and we hope to see over the summer.  For M2 who I no longer see at work on a regular basis but is still counted among the friends I plan to have the rest of my life. And for E who we hope to see this summer as well and who I keep hoping will find a love who will treat her as she deserves.
  • Family.  For a husband that lets me go off on adventures.  For two daughters who are growing up to be beautiful human beings.
  • The Divine.  For the knowledge and trust that even when I can’t feel it that something greater that I is there for me to turn to and lean on.

Blessings

Saturday at Womon Gathering

2 Photos of the lovely surroundings, taken of the area from behind our cabin:

Saturday was another awesome morning, waking up to the coolness and morning dew on the grass.  I actually slept until 6 a.m. – which believe me is a miracle (at home I’m usually awake several times during the night and stay up from 3 a.m. on).   I wasn’t sore or stiff which was another miracle, considering all the walking I had done the day before and all the dancing and running around the cicle I did the night before at the ritual.   I spent about 30 minutes down at the sacred fire meditating and journaling.  The birds were chirping, the sun was just beginning to rise.  It was a wonderful experience to be surrounded by Mother Nature in all her awesome beauty.

I have notes on the meditation at the fire which I will write about in a separate post.   I also awoke with a lot of images and inspirations in my head that just had to be jotted down – but they were not for me or Mama Kelly – but for one of the lovely vendors we had met the day before (I’ll post details about that in our Vendor Spotlight post later on).  Under normal circumstances I would have thought I was losing my marbles a little, but here, on sacred ground and open to spirit with other like-minded womyn I accepted the inspiration and messages from spirit and passed them along.

Mama Kelly: Lady Rose is always good like that.  She has on many other occassions served as a “message taker” for the Universe and happily passed on ideas and/or information to other people.  Additionally her ideas were wonderful and I hope that the vendor in question uses some of these ideas in her work as I want to buy one for myself!!

Breakfast was pancakes with fruit topping optional and oatmeal, as well as the usual cold breakfast fare and of course tea and COFFEE! (nectar of the Goddess).

At 10 a.m. we were off to our Essential Reiki II class.  It was as awesome as the first.  It’s hard putting into words just how much it meant for us to be taking Reiki at this time in our lives.  We both attended the class without taking notes – and trust me folks for Mama Kelly and I that just never happens, because we are both compulsive “A” student types.  We were both a bit surprised when we realized we had no paper or pen with us, but we just smiled and relaxed and enjoyed the class.  There was, of course, a handout with all the necessary information that we would need.  But it was definitely a learning experience for us to just “let go” and ”experience” the class rather then jotting down every single word that the teacher said on to paper.

Mama Kelly:  It was funny.  As Lady Rose has implied, and I will come right and say, I am a living incarnation of one Miss Hermione Granger.  I always take notes.  Always!!  This time around I wasn’t even tempted.  I simply tried to absorb it all.

Taking Reiki for me right now is about reaffirming myself as a Witch and Priestess.  For me being a Witch is about being able (and willing) to help and heal in times of need.  Since our return I have used Reiki to help Miss Nibble’s with a couple of headaches and on a stranger in a doctor’s waiting room who was in a great deal of pain and emotional distress (the later with the intent that if her Spirit was not open to the energy that it move on to someone who would be).

As we left the Reiki II class we slowly walked a tree lined path that went by two tennis courts on our left and cabins to our right.  We heard a rustling of leaves (like the sound you hear in the fall when the wind blows a pile of leaves).  At first we didn’t think much of it, but the sound got louder and louder.  When we looked over at the tennis court there was a whirlwind funnel of leaves swirling along the fence moving at the same pace we were walking.  When we noticed it, the sound got louder and louder, and we just looked at each other and said “do you see that?”.  At first we thought there must be some kind of blowing unit or something in the tennis court, but as we kept walking we didn’t see anything that could be causing the wind to behave like that.  As we reached the last corner of the tennis court the  whirlwind got bigger and bigger picking up everything from the corner, we waved and said “hello” to who ever or what ever it was, and it stopped.  Just like that.  No rustling, no lingering breeze or floating leaves.  We smiled and waved and said thank you to the air elemental or fairies or who or whatever, as we went on our way.

Mama Kelly: Yes this really happened!!  It was either the smallest (and most isolated) tornado in recorded history or it was some kind of elemental or fairy.  At the time I deemed it the later and invited any friendly fairies to feel free to hop in my bag and follow me home.  Fast forward to tonight while I was rearranging my freezer.  A small bracelet crafted from blue (almost sparkly) metal links fell out of an open bag of frozen peas and landed at my feet.  I can tell you without any doubt that this was the work of a fairy.  Noone recognizes it and dare I repeat myself – it fell out of a bag of peas!!!

We had a nice lunch, though I don’t remember what it was, but I know all the meals tasted wonderful.   We browsed some more at the vendors.  We picked up a few things for our daughters and  I decided to get a tie-dyed t-shirt with an image of a tree (I’ll have to remember to take a photo of it).  I had warned the folks at work that I would wear something “weird” the first back to the office – so I just had to have at get a tshirt to bring home.

For some reason we thought our afternoon class (Mystic Maps) was at 2:45 p.m.  We strolled down to the building where it was suppose to be very early, but there was a sign saying it was at an outdoor location near the dining hall.  So we walked back up that way and decided to wait inside the dining hall until class time.   A nice young woman sat down with us about 2:30ish and we started talking.  She asked what we were up to that afternoon and we mentioned the class – she said oh that started at 2, and here they come now – the class was coming inside because it had started to rain.   We decided that rather then join the class late we would just relax a bit instead.

We ended spending the afternoon helping peel sweet potatoes for that night’s dinner.  It was a fun time sitting around a big table and chatting with the other women.  It also felt good to be getting in our volunteer time.  (Note: Womon Gathering is a community affair, everyone pitches in to make the event happen.)   So our afternoon was well spent.   And it was good for us to not have to fill every single minute of the day with a class or ritual, which in the past has been that way we attended conference decades ago cramming in as much as we could into every minute.

The rain storm was pretty awesome.  The generator did go out for a few hours – which meant no electricity (so no pump which meant no water) – but candles and flashlights were gathered and everyone was prepared to deal with the situation.  Some of the young girls and women danced in the rain a little.  Others gathered in the dining hall in a circle singing songs.  Power and lights were restored in time to cook dinner and the air was fresh and crisp from the rain.

Mama Kelly: When they made the announcement that the lack of lights also meant a lack of water I heard that inner voice that I associate with the Goddess.  (I happen to believe that the Divine speaks to each of us often we just rarely pay attention.) This time she spoke of the need for all of us to realize how easily we could all find ourselves lacking those necessities of life which we take for granted.  How easily we could all find ourselves living in a world where water is rationed, where water has to be hauled once more.

Dinner tasted especially good, tofu and roasted sweet potatoes and small red-skinned potatoes, with the usual salad, soup and bread fare.

After dinner some of the students from the Reiki class met up for a “reiki share”.  Since everything was wet outside we couldn’t meet in the arranged outside location and other accommodations had to be found.  Half the class ended up back at our cabin in the unused room and the other half ended up at a different location – but our instructor found both groups and stopped in.   We practiced Reiki in groups for awhile (with 4 or 5 sets of hands on one person) for a little over an hour.  We decided that we all really enjoy giving and also receiving (“reiki sponges”).  One lovely womyn (also a “reiki sponge” hehehe)  who had taken reiki the year before stopped by for the reiki share, we had her lay down on the bunk with at least six pairs of hands on her.  When our instructor stopped in she told her, we were all “A” students.    Afterwards we spent some time just hanging out and chatting with the other womyn.

Mama Kelly: The Reiki share was wonderful.  So much so in fact that Lady Rose and I found ourselves wondering if we could work something out next year involving something a little more formal and bring along her massage table as the beds were a difficult height to work with comfortably.

Mama Kelly and I were so relaxed we decided that instead of going to the ritual that night we would rather spend more time at the sacred fire.  Having the time to sit quietly in a sacred space, to meditate, watch the flames, and just “be” was extremely renewing and healing for our heart, mind and spirit.

Mama Kelly: It was during this visit to the Fire that I found a way to finally make use of my prayer beads.  It is not yet complete as there are still beads as yet “unassigned”.  But I walked away from the fire with the words for one prayer that seemed so right for me.

“Elemental Spirits, Guardians & Guides, Gods & Goddesses make me more aware of your presence in my daily life.”

Afterward we left the sacred fire space we sat at the nearby gazebo. We ended up doubling over in laughter over something, and it was the kind of laughter that just welled up in giggles, snorts, drippy nose and eyes, and any attempt at stopping it only increased it’s intensity.  We laughed so much our cheeks and tummies were hurting and we loved every second of it.   It was a true gift to ourselves to have time to relax, enjoy each other’s company, and drink in the sacredness, beauty and peacefulness of our surroundings.

Mama Kelly: This attack of the giggles was truly one of my favorite parts of Womongathering.  It was the kind of laughter that just skirts the edge of sobs.  It opens up your heart and allows you to thoroughly feel yourself and the moment and eliminates the possibility of worry or angst.

Before bed we did our homework (40 days doing self-reiki).  After I rolled over on my side and got comfy under the sheet I thought about doing some reiki as I drifted off to sleep, but didn’t want to lay on my back so I could place both hands on my abdomen, since I don’t fall alseep well when on my back.  As I lay wondering whether I should roll over, I felt two hands lightly touching my back.  If I hadn’t been facing Mama Kelly’s bunk and knew for sure that she was in bed, I would have sworn she had read my mind, gotten up and was doing reiki on my back.  Thinking I must be imagining things (“again”), I adjusted my shirt and the sheet thinking that they must be laying in such a way that it just “feels like hands on my back.” Well even after pulling the sheet down and adjusting the shirt I was wearing I could still feel the light pressure of hands and a glowing warmth from them on my back.  I decided to get comfy and stay on my side, said “thank you” to who ever it was and promptly drifted off to sleep.

The level of relaxation, openness and connection to “spirit” while at Womon Gathering is truly amazing.

Bright Blessings, Lady Rose and Mama Kelly
