The May Queen

You must wake and call me early, call me early, mother dear;
To-morrow ’ill be the happiest time of all the glad New-year;
Of all the glad New-year, mother, the maddest merriest day,
For I’m to be Queen o’ the May, mother, I’m to be Queen o’ the May.

There’s many a black, black eye, they say, but none so bright as mine;
There’s Margaret and Mary, there’s Kate and Caroline;
But none so fair as little Alice in all the land they say,
So I’m to be Queen o’ the May, mother, I’m to be Queen o’ the May.

I sleep so sound all night, mother, that I shall never wake,
If you do not call me loud when the day begins to break;
But I must gather knots of flowers, and buds and garlands gay,
For I’m to be Queen o’ the May, mother, I’m to be Queen o’ the May.

As I came up the valley whom think ye should I see
But Robin leaning on the bridge beneath the hazel-tree?
He thought of that sharp look, mother, I gave him yesterday,
But I’m to be Queen o’ the May, mother, I’m to be Queen o’ the May.

He thought I was a ghost, mother, for I was all in white,
And I ran by him without speaking, like a flash of light.
They call me cruel-hearted, but I care not what they say,
For I’m to be Queen o’ the May, mother, I’m to be Queen o’ the May.

They say he’s dying all for love, but that can never be;
They say his heart is breaking, mother—what is that to me?
There’s many a bolder lad ’ill woo me any summer day,
And I’m to be Queen o’ the May, mother, I’m to be Queen o’ the May.

Little Effie shall go with me to-morrow to the green,
And you’ll be there, too, mother, to see me made the Queen;
For the shepherd lads on every side ’ill come from far away,
And I’m to be Queen o’ the May, mother, I’m to be Queen o’ the May.

The honeysuckle round the porch has woven its wavy bowers,
And by the meadow-trenches blow the faint sweet cuckoo-flowers;
And the wild marsh-marigold shines like fire in swamps and hollows gray,
And I’m to be Queen o’ the May, mother, I’m to be Queen o’ the May.

The night-winds come and go, mother, upon the meadow-grass,
And the happy stars above them seem to brighten as they pass;
There will not be a drop of rain the whole of the livelong day,
And I’m to be Queen o’ the May, mother, I’m to be Queen o’ the May.

All the valley, mother, ’ill be fresh and green and still,
And the cowslip and the crowfoot are over all the hill,
And the rivulet in the flowery dale ’ill merrily glance and play,
For I’m to be Queen o’ the May, mother, I’m to be Queen o’ the May.

So you must wake and call me early, call me early, mother dear,
To-morrow ’ill be the happiest time of all the glad New-year;
To-morrow ’ill be of all the year the maddest merriest day,
For I’m to be Queen o’ the May, mother, I’m to be Queen o’ the May.

Blessed Beltane

I cannot believe that it is nearly Beltane here in the northern hemisphere. Where has the year gone?

Our Beltane weekend will be focused mainly on the girls getting their next belt in Tae Kwon Do and most likely going out and buying a dress for Miss Artistic’s upcoming eight grade graduation festivities – we have a dance and the graduation ceremony itself at the very least she needs to dress up for.

Additionally I will be attending a party for my cousin’s son’s (for cake of ease lets call him my nephew) First Communion. So odds are there will be very little in the way of formally acknowledging the Sabbat. But, remember that sometimes it is as simple as choosing to wear a certain color clothes, a particular piece of jewelry, a specific perfume so that you are honoring the day in your heart even if other obligations take up your time.

Enjoy!

Goddess As Queen of the May

Refrain:
O Lady we crown thee with blossoms today!
Queen of all nature and Queen of the May.
O Lady we crown thee with blossoms today,
Queen of all nature and Queen of the May.

Bring flowers of the rarest
bring blossoms the fairest,
from garden and woodland and hillside and dale;
our full hearts are swelling,
our glad voices telling
the praise of the loveliest flower of the vale!

Refrain

Our Goddess we name thee,
Our mistress proclaim thee,
Please grant that thy children on earth be as true
as long as the bowers
are radiant with flowers,
as long as the azure shall keep its bright hue

Refrain

Sing gaily in chorus;
as the sweet birds o’er us
re-echo the strains we begin upon earth;
their songs are repeating
the notes of our greeting,
The Goddess herself is the cause of our mirth

(my own variation on a Roman Catholic hymn to Mary, the mother of Christ)

Entertaining a Sick Child WIth Bedtime Stories and Ice Cream

Thursday night I took the girls to Tae Kwon Do and Princess Nibbles found herself unable to finish class due to what appeared to be a migraine. She declared it to be “the worst headache” of her young life and she toughed it out (so that her sister didn’t have to leave class too) with her head in my lap as I rubbed her temples, attempted some Reiki, and covered her ears during louder moments of the class. I got her home, dosed her with liquid Advil and soon she was mostly back to her old self, although her throat was giving her some trouble (which I attributed to allergies), and she was queasy (which I attributed to a side-effect of the headache).

Friday morning dawned and I went to get the girls up for school to find Princess Nibbles truly sick. A decision was quickly made to keep her home from school, a decision which proved wise as when she finally woke up for the day her temperature was 104.5. She spent all of Friday on the couch, with cool compresses, regular dosing with both Advil and Tylenol (something her pediatrician advised years ago when a fever proved hard to break), and ice cream to get some calories into her and to soothe her throat.

When her older sister came home from school, she and I went to do the food shopping and I surprised her with a trip to Barnes & Noble, mainly as I wanted to pick up a couple of lined journals off of the clearance rack (allowing me to get a $13 journal for $5). Almost immediately after arriving home and unloading my groceries Miss Artistic headed out to spend the night at a friend’s house and so Gamer Dude and I entertained the couch-bound sickie with a movie from the $1 a night Red Box Rental machine – Bedtime Stories.

Overall, the movie wasn’t terrible. However, it also wasn’t very good. It had its moments. A few sweet scenes, a few funny ones. But, it won’t be one that we will find ourselves buying to watch over and over again.

Saturday dawned to find Princess Nibbles still sick, with a temperature of 103.6. However, OTC medication and cold compresses again brought her temperature down and today actual food has been consumed. She is so upset to be sick as the weather is drop-dead gorgeous. But, as always, she has maintained her cheerful disposition in spite of her disappointment.

Today I have already done my cooking for the week ahead. Nothing too spectacular – mainly items defrosted from week’s past and some semi-homemade type dishes. I have started the paper that is due on Monday – leaving me tomorrow night to actually finish it, as today Lady Rose is coming up for her regular overnight visit.

I wish you all a happy day full of pleasant surprises and unexpected happiness.

Can You Spare a Candle Today?

Most of my recent silence has been an upswing in my depression. As 40 draws closer my disappointment with what I have been able to accomplish in my life – or more accurately how much I haven’t yet been able to accomplish – is truly dragging my spirit down and causing me to withdraw further from life outside my home and my place of work. Additionally, I am finding that I am losing motivation to do any work here on the blog or on the book I still dream of writing. In short, my funk has turned into a pit I have fallen into.

The result is that I spend most of my computer time mindlessly surfing, playing games, and hanging out on Facebook. In other words I am merely killing time and it has to stop. I have to find some means of rejoining life and working on improving my lot – one step at a time, one day at a time. In fact I may take a ride to Barnes & Noble to pick up a new pen & paper journal so I can resume some inner work and hopefully find my way back to myself.

I do not plan to leave the internet behind, however. I just have to change how i use it and to get myself more organized with how I spend my time.

One friend that I reconnected to thanks to FB belongs to a local Sweet Adeline’s Chorus which I may look into joining when and if issues with Miss Artistic ever settle down enough for me to be able to make promises in terms of regularly attending practices as well as performances.

But, the true joy of my heart right now are the friend’s I have reconnected with (no insult to you guys I met when I moved to NJ) are friends I’ve known from my days living on Staten Island. One woman who I’ve known since I was 4 or 5, and other friends that hubby and I share, in fact he knew some of them first and it was through them that we met.

Getting back in touch with these people was a true gift for me and I hope to reconnect with all of them in person over the coming months.

One of them who I will refer to as JD is going today for a procedure to hopefully find her with a positive pregnancy test in 10-14 days. If you could send a good thought, light a candle, I would appreciate it. We have a little beeswax tea light candle (that I’ve had since Lady Rose took Gamer Dude & I to the PA Renaissance Festival last year) burning on my bookshelf altar right now so if you want to use that candle as your focal point I’m sure your energies will find their way to the proper recipient.

In any case I hope to be back to your regularly scheduled programing soon. I hope to get myself back on track with this blog, with writing, with more contests and hopefully surprises I haven’t even come up with yet.

I wish you all the blessings of beautiful days ahead.

Fairies, Friends, and Future Plans

Good morning one and all.     This week I have new obsession – Fairies!   And it’s all Mama Kelly’s fault.    LOL

Fairies – For some reason I decided to check out facebook.  I never had anything going on there since I only had two friends on facebook – and I communicate with one by email and the other was Mama Kelly who I email and see in person at least once a month.  Well, this time I noticed that Mama Kelly was playing an application called Fairyland – where you grow a garden with various flowers and herbs to go up in levels, discover the secret combinations for alchemy and herbalism, and to attract various animals to stop by your garden and it has wands and fairies dust.   Well I started my fairy garden on Sunday, and I’m hooked.    It’s so cute, totally stress free and playing helps to save the rainforest too.

If any one is interested in their own Facebook Fairyland garden and wants to favorite mine let me know and I’ll favorite yours too – my garden’s name is Full Moon Magic (fairy’s name is: Celinette, it means full moon) or if you want to link up as friends – leave a message here and I’ll contact you by email to exchange info.

Friends - This weekend I will be visiting with Mama Kelly for our monthly overnight visit.  As always I am really looking forward to spending time together.   Don’t have anything specific planned but I’m sure we will be discussing the blog, family updates, and a wide variety of topics that come up between two best friends of over 20 years.

Future Plans – I have been really unfocused lately with no major plans.   My time and energy has been mostly focused on getting through all the doctor appointments and tests required for the gastric bypass surgery.

The lastest test results I got this past Monday were about bloodwork – low vitamin D.  I didn’t think anything of it until the director said, oh well your parathyroid test is off too but that is from the low vitamin D.   Well my ears perked up, when I asked him about it, he just said “take a calcium pill with vitamin d.”   Well of course I had to look it up – and guess what – it seems that the only reason that vitamin d gets low is because of parathyroid problems (usually a tumor) – not the other way around – and that taking extra calcium would cause problems.    Plus I have all almost all the symptoms of a parathyroid problem – exhaustion, high blood pressure, kidney stones, etc. etc. etc.   I am going to have to do more research, but I am definitely going to have to see my primary physician and hopefully convince him to let me see an endocronologist to determine the problem – especially since it may involve major surgery (two long incisions down either side of the neck).    I’ve often thought I had a thyroid problem or soemthing for many, many years – one really odd thing I have is a frequent sharp pain in the side of my tongue radiating up from my neck, and I can often feel a tiny hard lump in the side of my neck.     but since I’m female overweight, any time I mention thyroid tests to a doctor – they just tell me to stop eating and exercise  (considering my calorie intake is 800 to 1000 calories a day and I have rhumatoid arthritis which makes exercise very very painful their advice is not helpful).    I’m not going to worry about it – but I will do some more research and see the doctor and after that if anything has to be done, I’ll just do it.

I also have some fun things to look forward to, like my very top secret plans for Mama Kelly’s birthday in June.   ***evil giggle***    And my daughter’s 13th birthday next month – she doesn’t want anything big, no party or anything.  She is thinking over what she would like for a gift and\or an outing – like a movie with a couple friends and\or shopping for some summer clothes at her favorite stores.   She doesn’t shop a lot, and always looks for sales so going out shopping is treat.

My husband’s nephew and his wife are expecting their first baby, a boy, next month – due date May 15 (my daughter’s birthday).   We are hoping she actually delivers that day.    I went to the baby shower this past weekend and it was very nice.   It was held at a local restaurant, brunch was served family style, the people at the table where Angelgirl (my daughter) and I sat were very nice, there were a couple baby shower games (50/50 and scratch off tickets) for little prizes, and a mountain of baby gifts to ooooh and aaaaaah over as they were opened.   One of the gifts I gave the expectant mom was a handmade crocheted blanket – done in a 12-point round pattern.  I took a couple of photos and will get them posted soon.

Bright blessings, Lady Rose

The Pentacle Song

Symbol, the pentacle song, by Celia

(6:43)

Performed at Sacred Harvest Festival 2006, a Pagan gathering of the Minnesota Harmony Tribe

The inspiration for the song was the death of a soldier and his wife’s request that a pentacle be used on her husband’s memorial plaque.

On September 25, 2005, with honor, Sgt. Patrick D. Stewart, 113th Aviation, D company, Mustangs, of the Nevada National Guard, gave his life for his country. He was killed in action in Operation Enduring Freedom. Mustang 22, the Chinook helicopter he was in was shot down in Afghanistan by Al Quada terrorists.

April 23, 2009 marks the 2nd anniversary of the Veteran’s Administration addition of the pentacle to “its list of emblems of belief that can be included on the grave markers it issues to honor deceased US military veterans” (source)

A Goddess Peace Prayer

Gaian Prayer – Jason Clark

Peace.
Peace She says to me.
Peace to your soul.
I am the beauty in the leaf.
I am the echo in a baby’s laugh.
I am your Mother.
I am the joy in the heart that beats.
I am the free woman.
I am the one who breaks the shackles of oppression.
You are my hands and feet.
