Lazy Weekends are Good for the Soul

Today Princess nature and I are having a mommy/daughter day. It is her favorite part of the weekend and honestly our weeks are generally so busy (and often filled with drama and chaos) that even though it means my house remains clutter filled and not as clean as I would like it is a gift I try to give her as often as possible.

Today started with some TV viewing, while I shared sips of my hot sweet creamy coffee. Now that she’s eaten lunch we are moving on to some microscope slide viewing of specimens from our kitchen (including green mold we grew specifically for this purpose), baking brownies from a box, a game of scrabble, and perhaps some time playing Wii. And then, she has requested to help make dinner (roast beef).

Miss Artistic is welcome to join any and all of these activities, but generally does not. But, later, we are going to be sitting down as a family to watch the animated movie 9 with some snacks to nibble on. This last activity she has already indicated she WILL be joining us for.

In other news, I have figured out a crochet motif that I think will work well for a shawl design I’m planning to sell on Etsy. Now, I just have to make a test version in the cheaper yarn I purchased at Walmart and approximate how many hours it takes to make one so I can figure out a sale price. Tonight will find me making at least one more motif, weaving in countless ends, and joining two together so that I can see if what works in my head works in real life.

In the meantime, it’s time for me to get back to the kitchen and our various experiments.

My Pretzels Spoke To Me

As a first step on what will be an eventual weight loss program I have started this week to rework my eating habits. I am not yet on a diet, but I am eliminating some bad habits, adding some nutritious choices, and logging what I am eating. In other words I am taking baby steps.

Today I brought some pretzels in with me to nibble on at work along with my canned pears, baby carrots, and Greek yogurt. I really don’t enjoy pretzels all that much (I’m more of a chip and dip girl) and so I tend to break them into little pieces before eating them a small nibble at a time.

Today I sat at work loathing my job, and feeling particularly low over where I am overall in my life and how far I am from where I would like to have been. Lately, it is not the depression that has been kicking my ass as much as it is the hopelessness that came along with it – the feeling that life will always suck so why bother trying. And while I can know logically that this is my off-balance brain chemistry talking it doesn’t really help me feel any better.

Anyway, as I was fiddling with my last pretzel – as I toyed with the last 3 pieces to nibble on I was struck by the fact that all three looked like letters.

So, I fiddled with them a bit more and realized that they spelled the word TRY.

I may not be able to feel my faith right now, my connection to the Gods may be frayed at best, but while I may have given up on life They apparently haven’t given up on me. It’s nice to know.

PS Hubby is aware of the depths of the depression and I am going to the Dr on Thursday to get back on meds. No need to worry.

Four Years Under Our Belt

I cannot believe that our blogoversary came and went and not only did I fail to acknowledge it here on the blog — I failed to even notice it at all.

Thank you for still reading us after all this time.

We hope to continue to grow and evolve in the months and years to come and hope you share that journey with us.

Busy But in a Good Way

Category: Life & Family | 1 Comment

Today will be a busy day but in a good way. Miss Artistic was dropped off this morning at her second (of a series of 8) art classes and I will be leaving in a few minutes to pick her up and take Princess Nature to her flute lesson.

Afterward, we will be picking up Gamer Dude and running a few errands before coming home (perhaps trying to get in my Wii Fit, which I haven’t done in almost 2 weeks) and getting ready to go out to dinner for a belated birthday celebration.

Tomorrow will find me cooking for the coming week, Miss Artistic both catching up on missing assignments and studying for midterms, and Princess Nature working on a crystal radio she got for Xmas/Yule.

Things are mostly stable, though Miss Artistic continues to have a hard time both situationally and with the usual school and teenage angst issues. My own depression/anxiety is high and other health issues are flaring up as well. Luckily, I have my Dr. appointment this week which will allow me to perhaps look into not only medication, but some long overlooked diagnostic testing in an effort to get my health back on track.

I wish you all love and light and many blessings

January Is Flying By

Life around my house has stayed a bit busy, mostly with meetings and things associated with Angelgirl’s middle school activities.  Her girl scout meetings have started up again after a break for the holidays and it’s cookie selling time.  She is rehearsing for the spring play (she is Violet in Willie Wonker and the Chocolate Factory).  There were also a few rehearsals to squeeze in for the orchestra’s concert performance last week (she plays the viola).  And of course we manage to fit in her karate classes too.

The big news this week is Angelgirl has her schedule for her high school freshman year that begins in September.  She is excited and I’m feeling a bit overwhelmed – but also delighted that she is looking forward to it.  She is taking Honors Sophomore Alegra (by the time she reaches 12th grade she will be taking statistics!   **ooowww my brain hurts**), Honors English, a science class, a history class, gym and 2 electives – Tech 1 and a language – German  (even though she has had Spanish in middle school she wanted to take something new for language and wanted to something that wasn’t that popular).

To keep focused on my main goal for the year – organizing – I’ve been little by little sorting through clothing.  I have packed up several bags of 3x, 2x and 1x clothing and given them to my sister.  My daughter has also been going through a few things and passsed a couple bags of small clothing to her cousin.  There was a great sale going on (pants for $3 and $5, shirts $7 to $10) so I now have a nice small collection of clothing that fits me well now that I’ve lost over 100 lbs rather than the old, baggy stuff I had been wearing.  I also got a  small stack of clothing that is ready for the next sizing down phase – it fits now, but is just a bit snug.

One of my other goals is bringing more spirituality and health into my life on daily basis and one of the ways I want to do that  is by learning more about chi gong and hopefully find a class I can take.  I bought two books about it to get started.  Some where  have a dvd set that I bought about two years that I need to find – but in this house is could be just about any where so that will take awhile.    I also bought a few wiccan pagan type books that I’m looking forward to browsing.

Life may be a bit fast paced, but it’s moving along very nicely and I’m doing my best to not take on too many projects and get overwhelmed.

Bright blessings, Lady Rose

Ever Want to Rip Out a Gummy Bear’s Heart?

It seems that my plan of laying like broccoli for the bulk of the weekend has paid of in that, while I still feel like crud on a cracker, the nastiness has limited itself to my sinuses and has not (as of yet) traveled south to my poor weary bronchial tubes.

Work today was rough. On the way home I stopped at the supermarket to pick up a few things and picked up some over-the-counter meds for myself – a super duper expectorant to loosen up the gunk in my sinuses and a nasal decongestant spray so I could actually breathe.

I came home, dosed myself, heated up dinner for the family and some soup for myself and we all settled down and watched Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs.

The combination of meds, hot soup, time with my girls, and some good giggles seems to have worked wonders and I think I may actually beat this bug without needing to go to the Doctor or go on another round of super-duper antibiotics.

Which means that things are looking promising for the coming weekend and another try for a make-up birthday for Gamer Dude. Huzzah!

Off to spend some time with him, some ice cream, and slightly more adult TV viewing.

The Best Laid Plans

Well, the plan for today was to spend the day enjoying sunny skies and doing something that involved us being out and about. This was to be followed by dinner out at a local restaurant as part of Mr Grumpy’s birthday gift to Gamer Dude.

Unfortunately, yesterday found me waking up feeling particularly cruddy, after a week of feeling really run down. By the evening I knew that I was dealing with yet another sinus infection.

As a result all of our plans for this weekend are put on hold until next Saturday when I will hopefully be able to do things like breathe normally, cease making embarrassing snorting sounds, and actually taste the food I am eating.

In the meantime, Miss Artistic is being picked up from the first of a series of 8 90 minute art classes and Princess Nature has to be brought to her 2nd flute lesson.

As for myself, I am off to resume my usual once-a-week cooking. This week’s menu includes my famous cream of tomato soup, baked chicken thighs (with defrosted sausage-apple stuffing and garlic mashed potatoes from Thanksgiving), and pork chops (not sure how I’m preparing these yet).

Health & happiness to you and yours.

Suggestions Anyone?

As we approach Imbolc I am, as I am every year, reminded of the promise of Spring. This year this reminder brings with it a nudge to start getting my butt in gear in terms of living the life I want as much as possible, right now.

As it will be years (if at all) until Gamer Dude and I have our home in the country replete with the pantry of my dreams and chickens in the yard this means starting to learn the skills I will need a little at a time in the interim.

To that end I am planning to buy pressure canning gear this year, as well as perhaps a dehydrator and a vacuum sealer. And so I ask you, our readers, if you have any suggestions on products, brands, sources, etc. to help me in this goal.

Blessings!
