Plans for Womon Gathering 2009

Category: Blog Bulletins | Written by Lady Rose

We are already planning our trip next year (Womon Gathering June 11-14, 2009, theme Earth, North, all aspects of the Goddess). We hope to attend every year when possible.

We would like to invite our readers who would like to attend to let us know. When it is time to register, if you wish, you can request to share the same cabin with us. (Note: this would require you CONTACT by email of your intentions to attend so we can reply with our “real” names used for registration so you could add the names to your request on the registration form. Early registration begins some time in late December (registering early means a slight reduction in the fee), we will be sure to post the dates in our side bar as soon as we see it is posted.

Mama Kelly: We have plans of decorating our cabin this year, especially if we are sharing it with some of our sisters from cyberspace. We’ve talked about hanging lights and even taking a flat sheet and painting it as a sign “2 WItches Blog & Friends”. It would sure make it easy for those of you who do wind up joining us there to find us.

Some things we will do differently next year:

This year we packed paper plates, bowls , cups, and plastic ware. Next year will pack a container or tote bag with a plastic tray, regular silverware, plastic plate, bowl and cup for each of us. The container or tote bag can be left in the dining hall and there is a set up to wash everything after the meal. It is not only more convenient, but also less goes into the trash.

Mama Kelly: Definately. Especially since next year will find my Eldest joining us there is no reason for us to create so much garbage. Also this will mean we don’t have to carry our dishes with us to classes and to shopping.

We will pack less and lighter. Clothing can be a lot lighter and rinsed out if need be to wear again. I will leave paperback books and craft projects at home, they really are not needed.

Mama Kelly: I will bring a pad of paper only. I wont even bring my journal. I can always staple entries in after I come home. Additionally I would like to bring one deck of tarot cards (and have it be one that Lady Rose would be comfortable with using as well) as we really don’t need 3 or 4 decks between us to cover one 4 day period. As for clothes, I will probably stick to Tank-tops and broomstick skirts with a pair of leggings for good measure in case I need an extra layer in cold weather.

Next year’s element theme is Earth and celebrating the three aspects of the Goddess. We will be keeping an eye out for lightweight decorative items, stones and crystals to bring along. We hope to be able to decorate the cabin a bit more. I have an Earth flag some where that would be perfect, I just need to find it. Depending on the cabin arrangements I may also bring along a cd player so we have music in the cabin (but I will be sure that it doesn’t bother others first).

Mama Kelly: That is one thing I wish we had had. Granted we spent very little time in the cabin other than sleeping but even just for our unpacking and packing itme it would’ve been nice to have music playing. I am even thinking that some Yule decorations will work for a North/Earth theme – “evergreen” or “holly” garland would fit the bill nicely.

We are each going to have a box or plastic container set aside just for Womon Gathering, that we will pack throughout the year as we find items to bring. This will not only reaffirm our commitment to ourselves to attend, but also makes getting ready easier when the time comes.

Mama Kelly: Especially as Lady Rose and I clear through boxes, closets, and clutter I am sure we will find things that will be making the trip North with us.

Next year we plan to bring Mama Kelly’s oldest daughter who will be 14. And then the following year (2010) to bring both her daughters.

Mama Kelly: Miss Artistic is looking forward to it and Princess Nibbles wishes she didn’t have to wait to go.

I have asked my daugher about attending (she would be 13 next year) – but she is hestitant to miss the Thursday and Friday of school. My hubby has offered to drive her all the way there on Friday (I could meet them out on the main road) and although that is a very generous offer, I feel she should wait until a time when she can be there for the entire event. Being 13 would be a perfect age to start attending, to share in Grylspace, and be open to learning more about the Goddess and accepting and rejoicing in the changes of her own body. But as much as I want her with me and want to share the experience with her, I will honor and respect her priorities. She has a perfect attendance record in school (she has never missed a day since kindergarten), and she chooses to put in as much as effort as is required to maintain an A average. I am leaving it up to her to decide when she wants to attend Womon Gathering and told her it is perfectly ok if she doesn’t. The only thing I’ve asked of her is that if she doesn’t attend while she is in middle or high school, that the year after she graduates she “has” to come with Mommy at least once (“pretty please”). Her reply was, “but I’d miss two days of college!” I assured her that college semesters usually ended a couple weeks earlier then school so she wouldn’t miss anything; at most it might be exam time and we could arrange for her to take exams on those days a little earlier. She is a bright, spiritual, loving child and although as her mom I would love to share the experience of Womon Gathering with her every year, it may not be her path. My only request is that she come along at least once at some point when she feels it is right so she can at least experience the event and hopefully get to know and understand her “weird” mom a little better.

Looking forward 2009! Bright blessings, Lady Rose and Mama Kelly

Last year was my first year. I absolutely loved it and didn’t want to leave. The sacred fire alone is worth it, IMO.

If we are all up at WG I know that LadyRose and I are up for meeting any of our readers who decide to attend. We’re looking forward to it actually.

    Blessings
    Kelly
