Womon Gathering – General FAQ

It is almost time to start planning on pre-registering if you want to get the best price for attending 2009′s Womongathering!!!!!!!

For those of you who are thinking about attending Womon Gathering next year or some time in the future, we thought this FAQ post might be helpful.

When is the next Womon Gathering? June 11-14, 2009, theme Earth, North, all aspects of the Goddess.

Where is Womon Gathering held? The exact location is not given out publicly, but once you register you will receive the directions in the mail. It is held at a camp in the northeast Pennsylvania area. Some car pooling may be available. There is a bus to and from the camp that goes to the airport and bus stop for a small additional fee.

Who can attend? Women of all ages, all religions, spiritual paths, walks of life; all sizes and shapes, etc. Female children are also welcome (for 2008 ages 3-6 cost $38; ages 7-12 cost $68; over 12 regular adult price).

What is the food like? Three vegetarian meals are provided, which are very good. There is always a salad bar at lunch and dinner. For breakfast there are always cold cereal options. So if you didn’t like the hot meal you would still have something to eat. There is also a snack bar that is open during meal time where you can buy a hamburger or hot dog, ice cream, and other snacks.

What should I pack? Sunscreen definitely. Bug spray if you want to (we were careful to use it very lightly and not around others who may not have wanted to exposed to chemicals). Comfortable footwear. Pillow, sleeping bag and\or blanket, sheet. Towel(s). A light weight folding chair if you have one can come in handy if you don’t want to sit on the ground for outside classes or circles, however, there are some plastic chairs available. You could also bring a mat or an towel (large) to sit on. We each brought a small fan and an extension along, and it really helped when the cabin got hot.

What should I wear? Anything you want to wear. Bring something along in case it is chilly at night and a poncho in case it rains. You can wear jeans and shorts, tshirts, etc. You can wear robes, halter tops, or no tops. Be comfortable and have fun, let your “hair down.”

What i did was sleep in a pair of sweatpants and long sleeve sweatshirt which were perfect for the little chill in the air in the moring. I could get up early and sit by the Sacred Fire without having to “dress” and wake up my cabinmates, then have breakfast. Afterwards I would shower and change into a lighter outfit for the day.

What else do I need to know? Remember this is a community effort. The women who work hard to make this gathering happen and those who work in the kitchen to prepare the meals are not servants. So please don’t forget to volunteer an hour to two to help out in any way you can while you are there – such as washing a few pans, help serve one of the meals, help set out the water pitchers on the donzens of tables before the meals, help clean up or take the trash out. Just ask – your help will be greatly appreciated.

Respect the property and the Earth. Don’t litter, use the recycle containers. Don’t waste water – take short showers (i.e. get wet, turn shower off, lather up, then turn water back on and rinse off).

You can not take photos of the sacred fire area. Please respect other women’s privacy and ask permission before taking photos with someone else in them.

Respect one another. Relax and enjoy.

Mama Kelly and I are planning to attend June 2009 – if any of our readers are also attending we would love to meet up and we would be happy to answer questions, packing tips, etc.

i’m thinking of being a vendor at the 2009 gathering…i’ve never been to the gathering nor have i much experience at “vending” my wares (handmade linens, woven on my floor loom, in very pre-industrial way)…can you comment (in general) about the vendors there?

I can tell you Erica that there was a nice variety of wares from Tshirts to gemstones to hand thrown pottery, etc. I can also tell you that I would’ve loved to have seen your wares there as there was nothing like it last year.

Please let us know if you do register as a vendor and we will give you a little publicity b4 hand.

The official website for the event – womongathering.com – should be updated right after the New Year. As it gets closer to the actual event itself the site will hold details about the classes and workshops, the presenters, as well as vendors.

Lady Rose and I are not affiliated in any way with Womongathering other than having been attendees ourselves.

I have been checking the site just like you have. Even though Lady Rose & I aren’t attending I was still planning on announcing it here when registration was open.

It is entirely possible that Womongathering may wind up being another victim of the economy as I’m sure that many former attendees and presenters will find themselves as unable to attend this year as Lady Rose and I are.

Hello Mama Kelly! I actually found a phone number for the office and gave it a call this morning. Spoke to a lovely woman who assured me that WomonGathering is indeed still running this year! She has just fallen behind on everthing and is struggling to catch up! She is sending me a program from last year, and a registration pamphlet for this year. I just wanted to let you guys know that it is still going on, she’s just fallen behind. Thank you so much for your quick response!!

    Amy
