Songs For Lammas – Lughnasadh Music

“Give thanks for the blessings, give thanks for the lessons
Give thanks for all that the Goddess Provides
Give thanks for this showing our dreams are now growing
Give thanks for the presence of the Goddess in our lives

Refrain:
Thank You, Thank you, O Great Mother Thank You”

available on Lisa Thiel’s Circle of the Seasons

“So sayeth Life, the world is mine
the flowers that bloom and the song of the birds
I am the daylight, and the sunshine
So sayeth Life, the world is mine

So sayeth Death, the world is mine,
daylight is but a vain display.
Stars and moon sink in eternal night.
So sayeth Death, the world is mine”

So Sayeth Life, available on Lucidian’s For the Lady & Lord or
download it from Amazon.com

Come, ye thankful people come: Raise the song of harvest home
All be safely gathered in: Ere the winter storms begin
The Earth our maker doth provide: For our wants to be supplied
Come, ye thankful people come: Raise the song of harvest home
Raise the song (raise the song): Raise the song of harvest home

The Pan Within – The Waterboys

While The Waterboys are not a Pagan band, Mike Scott (the band’s former) draws from various spiritual paths in the groups lyrics. I share this song here, frankly, because 2Witches tends to be a bit matrifocal and acknowledging and honoring the Divine Male was long overdue.

This song is a reminder that each moment is a gracious gift and that each breeze that blows through your window is a blessing.  It is a reminder that love is sacred and beautiful and never a sin.

The lyrics bring to mind moments of my “youth” (read 19-23) gazing entranced at the moon, dancing underneath the stars, kissing in the rain while my nightgown clung to my skin.

Enjoy

Mama Kelly

Come with me
on a journey beneath the skin
Come with me
on a journey under the skin
We will look together
for the Pan within

Close your eyes
breathe slow we’ll begin
Close your eyes
breathe slow and we will begin
To look together
for the Pan within

Swing your hips
loose your head, and let it spin
Swing your hips
loose you head, and let it spin
And we will look together
for the Pan within

Close your eyes
breathe slow and we will begin
Close your eyes
breathe slow and we will begin
To look together
for the Pan within

Put your face in my window
breathe a night full of treasures
The wind is delicious
sweet and wild with the promise of pleasure
The stars are alive
and nights like these
Were born to be
sanctified by you and me
Lovers, thieves, fools and pretenders
and all we gotta do is surrender

Come with me
on a journey under the skin
Come with me
on a journey under the skin
And we will look together
for the Pan within
When to be with you
is not a sin
When to be with you, oh just to be with you
is not a sin
We will look together
for the Pan within

Giving Praise to Hindu Deities

One of my favorite songs is George Harrison’s “My Sweet Lord“. It is, to my knowledge, the only popular American song that references Hindu deity, with the exception of the soundtrack of Hair. I love it for the cry of wanting to commune with one’s God (or Goddess), the desire to know the Divine, to experience the Divine, and the knowledge that attaining that connection “takes so long, my lord (and lady).”

Hm, my lord (hallelujah)
My, my, my lord (hare krishna)
My sweet lord (hare krishna)
My sweet lord (krishna krishna)
My lord (hare hare)
Hm, hm (gurur brahma)
Hm, hm (gurur vishnu)
Hm, hm (gurur devo)
Hm, hm (maheshwara)
My sweet lord (gurur sakshaat)
My sweet lord (parabrahma)
My, my, my lord (tasmayi shree)
My, my, my, my lord (guruve namah)
My sweet lord (hare rama)

The background singers are chanting elements of two prayers and give praise to Hindu deities, who from what I have read are different aspects of the same Ultimate Source:

  • Brahma – creator of the Universe
  • Vishnu – supporter and maintainer of life
  • Shiva – destroyer of evil

It also gives praise to:

  • Rama (the seventh incarnation of Lord Vishnu)
  • Krishna (the eighth incarnation of Lord Vishnu)

“Hare Krishna, Hare Krishna, Krishna, Krishna, Hare, Hare, Hare Rama, Hare Rama, Rama, Rama, Hare, Hare.”

and

“Gurur Brahma Gurur Vishnu/Gurur Devo Maheshwaraha/Gurur Saakshat Para Brahma/Tasmai Sree Gurave Namaha”

I know little about these prayers, the Deities they praise, or even the religion that uses them. But I know that the song itself speaks to me, moves me and touches me. I am not sure how George would feel about my lumping it in the category of Pagan music, but wherever he is I hope he understands.

Blessings

A Song For Imbolc – Awaken The Fire

Imbolc (Candlemas Song)
2004 Lisa Thiel

Blessed Bridget comest thou in
Bless this house and all of our kin
Bless this house, and all of our kin
Protect this house and all within

Blessed Bridget come into thy bed
With a gem at thy heart and a crown on thy head
Awaken the fire within our souls
Awaken the fire that makes us whole

Blessed Bridget, queen of the fire
Help us to manifest our desire
May we bring forth all that?s good and fine
May we give birth to our dreams in time

Blessed Bridget comest thou in
Bless this house and all of our kin
From the source of Infinite Light
Kindle the flame of our spirits tonight

Goddess Chants for MP3

We All Come From the Goddess sung by Keitha

We all come from the Goddess;
And to Her we shall return.
Like a drop of rain;
Flowing to the Ocean.

We all come from the Horned One;
And to Him we shall return
Like a flash of light;
Shining from a fiery storm.
Hoof and Horn! Hoof and Horn!
All that die shall be reborn!

Corn and Grain! Corn and Grain!
All that fall shall rise again!

Lady of the Silver Wheel ©Damh the Bard

High in the Castle of Glass,
A Silver Wheel turns in the night,
Slender hands guide a thread,
Keeping it true, keeping it tight,
As it spins, fate it begins,
To opens its eyes,
Lady of the Moon, of the Stars,
In the Spiral Castle I hear you sing.

Chorus
Lady of the Silver Wheel,
Lady of the Silver Wheel,
Arianrhod, Lady of Changes
you spin the Web of Life.

Gather up every thread,
Weave them together, join them as one,
The spindle begins to turn,
A soul’s new journey has begun
On the Earth, with every birth,
So the web that joins together all life
Is as one, daughter and son,
Animal, human, old and young.

Autumn begins to fall,
And the Moon wanes and seasons grow cold.
We all hear the Raven’s call,
Some while young, others grow old,
Oh she sings, the last chorus begins,
With a voice as gentle as Winter’s Lace,
A new thread through the wheel it is fed,
Woe to those who see her face.

Enjoy!

Music From Reclaiming

I love to sing. I spent much of my childhood singing along to my parents 8-tracks and record albums. I participated in choir both as a extracurricular activity as well as a credited class in both junior high and high school. Two of my proudest moments was being accepted by and performing in the All-Shore Chorus my Senior year of high school as well as singing a solo during the last concert at my school that year.

In my initial attempt at college I took Solo Voice and attempted to try and hold on to my Catholocism via performing for weekly Mass. Eventually I found Wicca and Pagan music and found my true home. As a Witch I guess you could call me a Chantress.

Singing is my own preferred way to connect to the Divine. Chanting specifically is my favorite way to reach an altered state of consciousness. Today’s Pagan Music Friday, the first on our new domain, I direct you to a collection of CDs put out by Reclaiming that contain some truly wonderful chants (and songs) perfect for your own magic making or holiday gift giving.

Enjoy!

Who is Reclaiming?
A Community of People, a Tradition of Witchcraft, and a 501(c)3 non-profit Religious Organization in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Reclaiming is a community of women and men working to unify spirit and politics. Our vision is rooted in the religion and magic of the Goddess, the Immanent Life Force. We see our work as teaching and making magic; the art of empowering ourselves and each other. In our classes, workshops, and public rituals, we train our voices, bodies, energy, intuition, and minds. We use the skills we learn to deepen our strength, both as individuals and as community, to voice our concerns about the world in which we live, and bring to birth a vision of a new culture.
