Diagon Alley Shopping Spree
Back to HP Party Index.
The students began their shopping spree with six wizard coins and a free shopping bag (white bag with handles from Oriental Trading Co. with a print of a wizard holding a wand saying “I shopped at Diagon Alley”).
The first shop was Flourish & Blotts where they received a 42 page book – Cover: Hogwarts Magical Encyclopedia – Special Edition, May 2007 -In Celebration of Angelgirl’s 11th Birthday (Not available anywhere else so don’t even try looking for one!), and a free quill pen from Scribbulus Everchanging Inks. I put together the book from various sources on the web and clip art. For the bookcover I used a science paper – that is stiff, and changes color with heat – i.e. from a hand print. I had the book copied back to back on paper with three holes, a plastic page protector for the front cover, a stiff piece of dark blue paper for the back cover, and three goldtone rivets through the holes. (It is to big to post, but if any one wants a copy I would be happy to email it to you.)
Next was Ollivander’s – Makers of Fine Wands since 382 BC where they received their wand and a handout about the wands (see below for wand info.). Wands were large wooden chop sticks that had been stained in various colors and wrapped in antique looking tissue paper.
Every student of course needs potions so they visited Slug & Jiggers Apothecary where they recieved a cauldron and various potions ingredients. I had found 40 plastic cauldrons for sale on ebay, I sprayed painted black over the writing on them (some Japanese drink I think). Each contained a zip lock baggie with various potion items: small rubber frog, snakes, spider rings, etc.
The next shop was Madam Malkin’s Robes for All Occasions where they received a free school bag and strip of large star stickers to decorate it with. The school bag was a white paper bag with handles, I put one of the fancy round H seals I had used for the invitation envelopes on the front.
Magical Menagerie and Eeylops Owl Emporium were next where students received a free baby dragon (stuffed from Oriental Trading Co.) and a Messenger Owl (made from toilet paper holder with google eyes, pipe cleaner legs, and feathers and 6 sheets of owl stationary).
Weasley’s’Wizard Wheezes gave out a free sample of their positively puckering popcorn (still in development!) — students were warned it might be best to try these on their parents or older siblings since the affects were might be pemanent. I put a few pieces of “sour” popcorn from a magic shop in each zip lock bag with a handful of regular popcorn.
Honeydukes was closed until 6 p.m. but students got to gaze at the large unicorn lollipops and large jars of candy on display, with a big cloth covering the goodie bags they would be getting later.
At the end of Diagon Alley were three magical face painters with tattoos, face glitter, face painting crayons, and body jewels – the kids just loved it!
