Prizes & House Cup

Magical Prize Basket – PHOTO

Back to HP Party Index.

Magical Prize Basket: A large basket that I put in small Harry Potter items – items I’d collected throughout the year, extra stickers, pencils, rubber stamps, etc., and got in lots from ebay. After each class three names were randomly drawn by my assistant professor and only  the winners got to peek under the cover and select a prize, so it kept the suspense up throughout the day till everyone got something from basket.   The first three called up the staff table didn’t know what to expect, they thought they had gotten into trouble.  But the next time the assistant professor came to table, rang the chime to make the announcements, the students were very excited to hear who would be name called next.  I told them it was a magical basket so we had no idea who would win or how they were chosen; but it had been set up for each name to be pulled out of a jar that was off to the side so that it could not be seen and everyone got to go up. I also made there were a lot of extra items, so each child had a lot of things to chose from.

The Daily Prophet Door Prizes: I had 8 dragon statues that I had gotten at a dollar store as the prizes.  Entry forms were given out inside the copies of The Daily Prohpet each of the students received at the beginning of the classes. Toward the end of the feast, two names were drawn from each of the four cauldrons by our guest wizard, Alberforth Dumbledore, and the winners got their pick of a dragon.  All the students won a small goodie bag – it was a small Harry Potter plastic party bag with a few various Harry Potter items, a sheet of stickers, a large bumper sticker, pencil, and small keyring book.

House Cup Trophies: (with chocolate dragon medallions for everyone) – During the feast we totaled up the house points (counted the marbles in the four bottles and added the 10 points for finding the snitch).  The house that won the house cup were presented with their trophies by Alberforth Dumbledore, our guest wizard, (small gold trophy necklaces from Oriental Trading).  Everyone received a chocolate dragon medallion for participating – I used a large dragon lollipop molded and used melted the candy wafers (in a variety of colors) in each one (but I left out the lollipop stick).  Each medallion was wrapped in a clear plastic bag with gold stars and a gold ribbon bow.

Golden Dragon Egg (chocolate): This was a large chocolate egg wrapped in gold foil that I found on sale for 75% off after Easter, it was so pretty I just had to have it and find a way to use it for the party.   I decided it should be a special award for a student who showed true Hogwarts spirit.   I took of the labels, and made a new label “Chocolate Golden Dragon Egg Prize, sponsored by Honeydukes.”  At the end of the party, I let the house mothers decide who would win this prize since they had worked so closely with the students.  My only instruction was to chose someone who didn’t win a lot of the other prizes and maybe hadn’t done so well in the tournament, but who had tried hard and had been very well behaved.  I made a very big deal out of the presentation and it was handed out by our guest wizard Aberforth Dumbledore.  Everyone agreed that the student who won deserved, and it was a huge moment for him, and photos were taken of course.
