For Kind Police and Facebook

Category: Blog Your Blessings, Humor & Memes, Mama Kelly's Musings | Written by Mama Kelly

Today I am grateful for Facebook.  Unlike blogging and twitter which have allowed me to make friends and to get a glimpse into the life of total strangers, this social networking site has allowed me to reconnect with people I long ago lost touch with.  Friends from when I lived in Staten Island and friends who attended the high school here in NJ that I wound up graduating from.  It means so much to me to be able to talk to some of these people again.

Today I am grateful for being almost halfway through a college class that is quite literally boring me to tears.  I am hoping that whatever I take over the summer (assuming I can afford to take anything at all) will be a little more challenging, or at least less mind-numbing.

Today I am grateful for being able to see Miss Artistic receive her art award on Friday night.  They weren’t going to let me in as I had left my ID at home.  Eventually, a kind State trooper took pity on me and allowed me in, even though if things had gone awry it would’ve been on him.  I don’t recall his name, but he shall be spoken of fondly for a long long time .. may good fortune rain down upon him as missing that moment would’ve haunted me always.

Blessings to you and yours

Mama Kelly

PS This entry went up late as I wanted to leave our latest giveaway announcement up.

All great blessings. Why do you have to show ID? I have met a few old friends on FaceBook.

The event was held at the State House. Though nowhere on the “visiting us?” website nor on the invitation to the event was there any indication of needing ID to get in. Granted it is a government building, but it was after hours.

Isn’t it funny how a total stranger can make such a big impression on your life through a simple act of kindness. He may not even remember that he did that for you, but the fact that YOU remember means there are some extra “good vibes” out there floating around this guy.

12 years later I still remember the guy and his son who stopped to help me when my car went kaput! I was on my way from OK to OH, moving all by myself (with my cat!). No one else on that busy highway stopped for a good half hour, but they did. And wouldn’t you know it! They had Okie tags on their truck! I never did get their names, but they took me and my cat to the nearest truck stop/garage and stayed with me until I got some help squared away. I still think of them from time to time, and especially when I see another motorist in need of help. I remember what they did for me, and that they inspire me to do the same for others.

It all fits into my life motto: Keep the good vibes rolling.
