Chameleon over at Everyday Tarot has tagged us for a 7 random things meme.
1. I hate to wear shoes. I spend most of my time at home barefoot – even in the coldest weather. I hate socks even more than I hate shoes. Mainly because I simply hate the sensation of having anything on my toes. Oddly enough I’m not a fan of bare feet outside. I guess its the city girl in me (I grew up in Staten Island). I get neurotic about stepping on things like slugs or rusty nails. My compromise for most of the year is slip-on sneakers or sandals and no socks.
2. I have an interesting mix of medical conditions ranging from endometriosis and bowel adhesions to neurofibromatosis. It has caused me to be much more informed about odd medical info than I ever would’ve expected myself to be. It has also caused conflict with some Doctors I’ve had over the years as most medical professionals I come across aren’t happy when they have an educated patient.
3. I love to sing. In my senior year of high school I had (for a brief brief period) a four octave range thanks to singing first soprano in 2 choir classes a day and male tenor in the school musical. Nowadays my voice falls more into a low-soprano/high alto range basically due to disuse and frankly age.
4. I am a pretty darn good cook. I am not a gourmet chef by any means, but real home-style food I can whip up in a heartbeat. I am great at stretching leftovers, like the other night I whipped up a semi-homemade gravy and turned some leftover london broil into hot gooey cheesy open faced sandwich goodness. I am a fairly good baker as well, I just wish I had more time (and energy) to spend in the kitchen.
5. This summer GamerDude and I are going to try our hand at steam bath canning. I want to put up some jellies & jams, brandied fruit, and perhaps some pickles. If this goes well next year I hope to be able to afford a pressure canner so we can put up a wider variety of items.
6. I try as much as possible to stock up on things we use all the time when they are on sale so, if need arises, I can go for a couple of weeks (or months in the case of my toothpaste supply) without buying anything again. A recent example is this past Saturday I bought 10 boxes of cereal at Acme for $1.50 a box – cereal that is normally over $4 a box!!! The best way to do this is to start small. Look at your storage realistically and pick a couple of things that you use a lot of that you can spare the space to store. Then watch for coupons and sales on those items and stockpile away. Just make sure to use them before they expire (yes even toothpaste goes bad eventually).
7. I am currently in the midst of an “I hate my hair” phase. I am seriously considering cutting it short again, except that I know that a week after cutting it (and loving my short “d0″) I will hate it all over again for new reasons. Normally I would dye it, but my scalp has not been a happy camper of late. Odds are I’ll just go and get a couple of inches cut off to get rid of the stringiness and live with hating it until my scalp is better and I can change the color at least.
Blessings
Mama Kelly

I think it’s always best to WAIT when you are in the mood to cut yer hair off — wait and see if you still feel that way. I find short hair a LOT more work than long hair.

I love learning things about blogging friends – you’ll love canning! When we had a strawberry patch in the yard, the kids and I had a blast making strawberry jams and preserves. We were going to give them out as Christmas gifts – but none of them lasted that long. Soooo much better than what you buy in the store!

I am going through the I Hate My Hair phase too, but can’t bear to cut it all off, either.
It was much easier to deal with my hair when I was single. The worst thing is when my DH rolls over onto it – ouch!

Dame Penniwig –
Hubby has essentially forbidden me from cutting it short because he knows Ill hate it almost as soon as I do it. Because like you said short hair is so much more work than long – esp since mine is naturally straight
Chameleon –
Im really dying to can. The thought of brandied peaches put up in the summer and brought out over the holidays to ladle over vanilla ice cream is enough in of itself LOL
