- Finding Sanctuary: Monastic Steps for Everyday Life by Abbot Christopher Jamison
– Christopher Jamison is abbot of Worth Abbey, a Benedictine monastery near London. He was the host of the surprise hit BBC documentary series “The Monastery.” I enjoyed the show and loved the Abbot. He was kind and wise and completely unashamed of a wild youth and former rebellious spirit. The steps detailed in the book are : silence, contemplation, obedience, humility, community, spirituality, and hope.
- Sun and Shield: A Book of Devout Thoughts for Every-Day Use Based on Jewish, Pagan, Christian, Islamic and Modern Literary Texts by Allen Darnov, Gustav Gottheil
– I haven’t read a summary or a review but the title alone captivates me.
- I, Lucifer: Finally, the Other Side of the Story by Glen Duncan
– A novel, but it sounds wickedly funny. God gives Satan a month in a human body, with an option to own, thus permanently casting off his pain-racked cosmological being.
- Cinema Nirvana: Enlightenment Lessons from the Movies by Dean Sluyter
– I want it for this review alone :“Sluyter is the movie guru I have longed for. Virtually every page contains jaw-dropping insights and laugh-out-loud surprises.” —Lama John Makransky, Professor of Buddhism and Comparative Theology, Boston College
- The Tao of Willie: A Guide to the Happiness in Your Heart by Willie Nelson, Turk Pipkin
– Loosely basing his book on the philosophical text of the Tao Te Ching, Nelson advocates incorporating into one’s life many of the teachings of that ancient work, such as meditation and the belief that all things are interconnected.
- The Complete Book of Tarot Reversals by Mary Greer
– Greer claims that reversals offer a portal to the more mystical and esoteric influences in our lives. They “provide an opportunity to reach below logic and lead us into the realm of potentials and underlying causes where everything is connected and Magic happens.”
- A Goddess is a Girl’s Best Friend
– this one I’d like my daughter to read, probably when she’s like 15 or so – “By providing mythology, history, rituals, prayers, and exercises, the author reveals how anyone can tap into the power of the Goddess to improve all areas of her life”
- Teen Goddess: How to Look, Love & Live Like a Goddess
– another book that is on my wishlist more for my daughter than for me – “Author Catherine Wishart takes a slightly different approach in her spiritual how-to book by focusing solely on the worship of the Goddess “
- Thirty Cats
– a novel with a main character who is affected by Neurofibromatosis, a genetic condition I share.
- All About Me
– this is basically a BIG MEME to fill out. I thought it would be fun to have hubby and I each complete one and leave it behind for our girls
- All About Me Teenage Edition: The Story of Your Life
– and one for my older daughter as well – I may pick this one up for her 13th bday in December
- My Life According to Me (Klutz)
– and if we’re all going to get one I have to get one for the younger as well
- Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (Book 7) (Deluxe Edition)
– odds are I’ll just get the regular hardcover – but oh this one sounds so dreamy – it includes a 32-page insert of art and illustrations, a “custom-designed slipcase,” and a “full-cloth case book, blind-stamped on front and back cover, foil stamped on spine
OK and a bonus item for Hubby -
Dragonlance Chronicles Special Edition (Dragonlance Chronicles) – an annotated edition of the trilogy that we are both fans of, with a leather, embossed cover and gilt-edged pages … ooooooooo pretty!!!
Blessings
