At least it’s only a four day work week.
I feel pretty good about this weekend – finally got my new exercise bike up and running (and used it twice so far!), took down the xmas tree and decorations, and made some progress on the plans for the Harry Potter party (did a little more shopping – finally found a nice dark green table cloth, got big containers so I can sort things for the party and get a bit more organized, found some great small apothcary jars for .79 at the craft store that I will use for the Apothcary shop, and some other odds and ends).
I decided rather then fretting I would just reorder some things that I can’t find for HP party — like the monogram seals for the invitation envelope. So I looked on ebay and found them again and placed the order. Probably when they arrive, I’ll find the original batch I already have, but at least it’s one less worry. A few other things I can’t find yet I don’t really need – so if I don’t find them, I am determined to let it go and just focus on the positive and what I have. So much for getting stuff done early — guess it was too early and the boxes are lost in the black hole that exists in my house.
I have finalized the wizard tournament activites that will be held after the classes. There are four events, I found the games at Oriental Trading. For each event the kids will earn points for their house towards winning the house cup (I bought small trophy cups on a chain to give out to students in the winning house).
Magical Wishing Star Ring Toss – wooden painted stars with rope rings (I will have the kids make a wish as they toss).
Haunted Ghost Dart Board – velco ghost board with soft balls to toss at it.
Pumpkin Patch Bean Bag Toss – a wooden jack o lantern with bean bags (a bat, ghost, and spider) to toss through the openings.
Snitch Relay Race — long spoons with eggs but I will replace with snitches made from styrafoam painted gold and feathers. I also have straw brooms for the kids to ride as they race to get their snitch to the goal.
There are 5 to 6 kids in each house – so since there are four games, each house can play at the same time and then rotate to the next game. That way no one is standing in line waiting for 23 other kids to have a turn to play a game.
I have also decided that if I can make something easier — I’m going to do it. So when I found microwave fudge kits at the craft store I bought 8 of them. I figured it was probably cheaper or at least not that much more expensive to buy the kits as it would be to buy the ingredients to make a lot of fudge for the Honeyduke candy shop — and the savings in time will a lot.
At the dollar store I found jelly frogs — so I bought two bags of those too. I can use some to decorate my “Dark Forest” cruditite platter. Thank goodness for dollar stores. I have a found quite a few odds and ends there that will add to the overall decor (i.e. bags of plastic lizards, small rats, small bats, bugs, and some jars of weird looking foods that I will relabel for the Apothocary shop).
We are all fighting off a touch of something and I didn’t sleep well at all last night — but I’m hoping we won’t get too sick and that next weekend I will up to getting even more done.
Magically yours, Lady Rose
