Princess Nibbles’ is doing alright overall. She’s not enjoying school as much this year as she’s not too fond of her teacher, or more accurately is convinced that her teacher is not all that fond of her. Luckily I have parent teacher conferences for her in a couple of weeks and I plan to get to the bottom of it (nicely, subtly … I promise)
Additionally I think she’s a little overwhelmed this year with the combination of school, the gifted program, flute, and Taekwondo (especially as we go three times a week now). But, she’s determined to do it all and while she continues to enjoy everything and keeps her grades up all we can do is let her try.
At the same time we have to watch her a bit because she tries to be perfect even though we encourage her to not be so hard on herself all the time.
On another note, she is determined to get an American Girl doll one way or another, come hell or high water, by hook or by crook, even if she has to save up the money herself.
Now don’t spoil the surprise, but odds are we will get her the one she wants for Yule/Xmas (especially as I talked her down off the ledge of wanting the even more expensive My Twinn doll with the lure of knock off costumes and accessories on Etsy).
I even promised her that once she saves up enough for her doll (cough, cough, wink wink) that I will teach her how to crochet and we will make stuff for her.
In case you’re curious we’ve settled on the Julie doll, mainly due to her hippie wardrobe and long (very long) blonde hair, both of which Princess Nibbles approved of.
My main concern, aside from the frightening expense (somewhat offset by the fact that I know their dolls’ quality), is that I know how fleeting this adoration will last being as that she’s just turned 10.
Oh well. When I think about how much money I’ve wasted at the holidays each year on gifts that were used a couple of times (or only once) before finding a home in the bottom of a toy box, a doll she’ll adore for a year or two probably isn’t all that bad a deal.
Blessings
Mama Kelly

ebay has some good deals sometimes on American girls things
Let me know what I can do to help out (it would be my pleasure to contribute if needed) – also let me know if there is dress or accessories to order for her xmas present. I’ll let AngelGirl know too – perhaps if we get a chance to visit after xmas she could be persuaded to bring her American dolls, she is a bit too old to play with them now, but she might be willing to play a bit for old times sake and she enjoys playing with Princess Nibbles
I know Miss Artistic is too old for American Girl – but a trip to the American Girl store in NY is a lot of fun – perhaps next year sometime we could arrange a trip for the girls? We went with Angel Girl and a friend and had lunch there which was adorable – they have doll size place settings and chairs for the dolls, and the food was fun and tasty too.

While she may soon be “too old” to play with them, it’s possible she may still adore it for “collector” purposes. I know of many grown women who collect the American Girl dolls. (Sadly, we cannot get them here where I live unless we order them online.)

If nothing else, I’m sure Nibbles would love to see AngelGirl’s doll and accessories, even if no actual playing perse occurs.
Honestly any of the Julie clothes from the website would be met with squeals as would accessories (like the lunch box, the pet bunny, the room or sound accessories), except for the ones that can be ordered with the doll, she’d just love. She wants furniture too (like a bathtub or a bed) but I’ve already been showing her things on etsy that are a fraction of the price of what’s on AG. She’s doesn’t seem to care too much about where said accessories and outfits come from.
I know that Nibbles would love the trip to NY. I can’t wait to se her face Xmas morning when we get her the doll I’m making her save up for LOL

We’ll be ordering them online ourselves. Closest store is in NYC and if and when we go there it will be an all day outinf not just a shopping trip.

I’ve had my American Girl dolls for over 10 years and they’ve been well loved by myself, my sister and now I’m passing them to my boyfriend’s daughter.
They’re truly worth every penny.
My parents were tight with finances when I got my first doll (and I knew in the same way all kids know) which made my doll that much more precious.
So I hope your daughter enjoys her doll as much as I loved mine!
