Yule Approacheth

Category: Life & Family, Mama Kelly's Musings | Written by Mama Kelly

Between working the last 19 days in a row and trying to get ready for the holidays I have not had much in the way of time to blog.  For that I apologize.

Otherwise things have been okay.

Miss Artistic has been doing fairly well.  We had a pretty big blow up last week over her disorganization and refusal to do her schoolwork.  We both apologized to each other for “overreacting” and since then she’s really been making an effort, not only in regards to school but in terms of our homelife as well.  She has been asking to spend time together as a family, she has been more helpful, she has been more affectionate.  I am tempted to say that we had a breakthrough, but I don’t want to jinx it.

Princess NIbbles is her cheerful self, aside from developing frequent headaches.  Once we are past the holidays I have to catch up on some Dr. visits, including new vision testing for both of them.  Our first guess is that she may need eyeglasses but if her eyes are okay then we’ll be goin to the pediatritian to see if any other testing is called for.

GamerDude has been dealing with the bulk of the wrapping and pre-holiday cleaning as I am generally not getting home until 7:30PM.  I am more grateful for this that I can say.  Though, as I told him last night Xmas morning is going to be filled with surprises for me as well  Normally I do the bulk of the wrapping and, as I have a pretty good visual memory, I can usually identify most of the gifts under the tree.  This year I’ll be as surprised as my girls every time they open something.

I have been exhausted, due to working too much and sleeping too little.  But I have much to look forward to.  I am looking forward to this weekend as my friend “E” is coming up from out of state for the weekend.  Not only does this mean that I have 2 days off from work (I’m working my 40 hours over 5 days istead of 6 and passing on the side-project on Saturday) but I get to actually celebrate the solstice instead of just Christmas this year.  My friend isn’t Pagan but our plans for the weekend revolve around baking a mess of cookies, listing to holiday music, admiring our tree, sitting by fire with either a glass of mead or spiced wine, and going out to look at a seasonal light display.  I’ll be in my gory between having my friend here and just having the blessing of a couple of days where I can simply be myself.  Think of it as Yule-lite.

The rest of the week will be filled with holiday errands, holiday chores, and house tidying but it will be all worth it Friday night when “E” arrives.

Granted we still don’t know how much it will cost to fix GamerDude’s computer, so I would appreciate some positive thoughts in that regard.  Granted I am not sure what;s going to happen to my budget once my side project goes away.  But for the next couple of weeks I am going to try and not stress about any of it and instead focus on enjoying the holiday as much as possible.

May you and yours manage to do the same.

Blessings

Mama Kelly

May you and yours enjoy this weekend – glad you get a chance to celebrate the solstice! I’m attending my first official Sabbat, and am extremely excited about spending Yule with others who share my beliefs.

I will definitely be sending positive thoughts your way for GamerDude’s computer – my fiance is having troubles with his as well, so it seems a bad season for technology. :-) All the best to you guys!
