Above photo is inside our cabin – our beds are on the right with the 2 bookcases together in the middle. The Goddess banner was hung by one of our cabinmates. We plan to bring up some things to decorate more with next year.
Friday was our first full day of Womon Gathering 2008 and we totally settled in and ready to jump right in and enjoy everything. I woke up early (before everyone else), refreshed and feeling wonderful – in spite of sleeping on a thin mattress on a wooden type camp bed.
Mama Kelly says that she too slept surprisingly well in spite of the less than stellar mattress support and the unfamiliar surroundings. I did not wake as early as Lady Rose but then I don’t know anyone else who does.
I went down to the sacred fire to spend some time in meditation and to place some crystals and other items I had brought with me for blessing. The sacred fire honors the 8 directions, and I found myself drawn to west (color – black) which is where I placed the items.
Mama Kelly again. The Sacred Fire was my personal favorite part of Womongathering. One day when GamerDude & I have that home of our own with land a’plenty he has already promised to make me something similar. In the meantime I may just keep my eye open for an after-season sale for a firepit.
We had plenty of time for breakfast and were able to leisurely enjoy the oatmeal, fruit, and other breakfast fare. After breakfast we showered got ready for the first ritual of the day.
Opening Ritual – Let the Sacred Waters Flow (Marie Summerwood). For this ritual we were asked to bring a small amount of water from near our home that was added to large bowls as we entered the circle. The combined waters were blessed and we had the option to bring some home with us for our altars, the rest was added to the pond that was next to the sacred fire.
Mama Kelly here. This was a powerful way to step foot into the ritual aspect of Womongathering. It was beautiful and empowering and incredibly moving. Both of us were moved to tears during the rite and I found myself uttering thank yous under my breath just for being able to really feel my spirit stir once again.
We had time after lunch to again browse the vendors, more had arrived so there were new things to drool over. I was able to reach Angelgirl on the phone and walk around some of stands desribing things to her so she could pick out a little something for me to bring home for her. (She chose a lovely hat with a celestrial design.)
In the afternon we both attended Essential Reiki I. (Instructor Francena Marie Hancock). About midway through the class we had a break, Mama Kelly and I both knew that this was just what we needed and reaffirmed our plan to continue with Reiki II and III on the following days.
Dinner was eggplant parmigiana, and it was delicious. There was also salad fixings, soups, bread and fruit.
Afterwards we had plenty of time to get ready for the evening ritual, so we showered and changed into robes. And we strolled down the lane to where the ritual would be held and practiced Reiki outside on a bench while we waited.
The ritual Friday evening (Mirrors Of Our Souls) was one of the best I have ever attended. It was presented by the “Rowdy Goddesses”. My spirit soared as we sang the chants, I was honored to share sacred space with awesome womyn, I felt the Goddess touch my soul and heard her voice within me.
Mama Kelly: What can I say? I sang, I laughed, I communed with my Goddess. What more can a WItch ask out of any ritual?
More posts about Womon Gathering will be coming for the next few days.
Bright Blessings
Lady Rose and Mama Kelly
