Wander the Web Wednesday – Blast from the Past

As Mama Kelly and I were making the move to our new domain here at 2 Witches dot com, we got to re-read a lot of old posts. As we settle in here these first couple of weeks, we thought it would be fun to share with you a few of our posts that are “oldies but goodies.” For this week’s “Wander the Web Wednesday” we invite you to wander around our blog and enjoy our favorite posts from the past.

Good Morning Dear Readers,

Our third day here in our new location and we thought it would be nice to give you a little background on how it all got started and how we got here.

First we want to offer our heartfelt gratitude in this lifetime and many more to come to the “grand wizard” Saphrym for taking our ideas and rough sketches to create this beautiful template and making our dream come true. Without his talent, time, and “extraordinary” patience all this could not have happened.

And now on with our tale…

Once upon a time, in far, far, far corner of the blogosphere two best friends (who happened to also be witches) began two little blogs. They would type long hours into the night, chat and giggle, but there was something missing and the two best friends would often *sigh* and ponder what could they do to make things even better.

The muse whispered in their ears…but they were too busy typing away. The muse tapped them on the shoulder…but they were too busy daydreaming. The muse jumped up and down trying to get their attention…but they were too busy giggling. Finally the muse took a 2×4 and whacked them not so gently on the head. The two best friends (who were also witches) looked at each other and said…”Why don’t we combine our efforts and have one blog for 2 witches.”

From that day forward it was a roller coaster blogging ride – moving from blogger, then moving to a free wordpress blog, being shut down by wordpress, starting over again with a new wordpress again, getting old wordpress blog restored and moving all the content to the new blog, all the while day dreaming for a permanent home on our very own domain.  For all the details see our post: Merry Meet.

AS IT IS WRITTEN, SO SHALL IT BE!

Welcome to our new home.  We have finally made it to the big time…our very own dot com! We have left lots of breadcrumbs around the web, so our friends and readers will be able to easily find us.  Please be sure to update your bookmarks and links for 2 Witches Blog, and to subscribe to the new feed.

We have moved over the major content (pages and most of the past posts) from our previous location, and little by little we will eventually get all the posts moved over.  Now granted, not everything “made the cut.”  In some cases, posts from when we were new bloggers were discarded or merged with other posts.  In some cases, content was recycled so it can be shown to a much wider audience than we originally had “back in the day.”  We have also consolidated posts from three of our other blogs into this one, so that we can focus more on expanding and updating here.  As much as we enjoyed having smaller niche blogs, we felt it would be better for us and our readers to have our time and energy more focused now that we have a our own domain. 

We have also been working diligently to make it easy to navigate the site and find information, with a convenient search bar at the top right, use of tags and categories, and our content page.

**Please, help yourself to refreshments and have a look around**

One of the great new features you will find here is our Forum, with lots of fun discussion categories including “Ask A Witch.”  We are looking forward to being able to interact with our readers more and enjoying lots of lively discussions.  Our forum also offers a convenient way for our readers to leave feedback and suggestions.  Feel free to let us know what you think, offer suggestions for improvements you would like to see, or a topic you’d like us to post about, or if anything needs fixing (i.e. broken link).

There will be new content and features showing up, for example we will be including creative projects and writings by our daughters (Miss Artistic, Princess Nibbles, and Angelgirl) and a new feature Divine Devotions (Mondays).

Stay as long as you like and enjoy looking around and checking out the new place (there is even a secret chamber but we are not telling you how to find it! that you must do on your own).   Coming up this month we have planned a lot of special posts for you to enjoy, including some very old stories from our early days in circle.  We hope you will visit often!

Welcome to 2 Witches Blog.

If you are reading this, you are no doubt curious as to how this blog began and who are the two witches doing the blogging.  We created this post to help you sort it all out.  (Note:  all previous content from older versions of this blog has been moved here.)

Mama Kelly began blogging on this day (Jan. 25, 2006), the blog’s name was Mama Kelly’s Musings on Blogger - first post What Everyone Should Know About Wicca.

Shortly there after Mama Kelly convinced her best friend Lady Rose that she should start blogging too. And so March 6, 2006, Lady Rose started her very own blog called Purple Moon Garden on Blogger, and wrote her first post Lady Rose Introduction.

It didn’t take long for the two best friends (who are also witches) to realize it would be a lot more fun if they blogged together, so April 22, 2006 Mama Kelly moved her posts over to Purple Moon Garden. 

As they learned more about blogging and decided to expand, they moved all the content over to a free WordPress blog at the end of July, 2006 - the new blog was also called Purple Moon Garden but later changed to A Blog of 2 Witches. Mama Kelly and Lady Rose could now add pages and more useful content for their readers. 

In April 2007, there was a glitch with WordPress and the blog was shut down for several days. Mama Kelly and Lady Rose scrambled to start over and created a new account for A Blog of 2 Witches.  Once the old blog had been restored, they decided they liked their fresh start and decided to just stay there so they moved (once again) all the old content over.  Over the next several months the blog went through several changes, various themes, and a title change to 2 Witches Blog. 

Mama Kelly and Lady Rose dreamed of one day having their very own domain 2witches.com and they bought the domain name, but it took over a year to finally arrange for hosting.  In August of 2008 Lady Rose discovered that the hosting service she was using for her other blog had just added a new feature – a second domain could be hosted for no extra cost.  Finally their dream for 2 Witches Blog was going to come true.

It took three months months to set up the theme, plugins and widgets and move over 100 pages of content and two years worth of daily posts (over 1300), do all the internal linking and graphics, etc. 

Finally the BIG day arrived, Nov. 1, 2008 (Samhain) 2 Witches Blog held their grand opening on their very own dot com in thier new permanent blogging home – Welcome to the Grand Opening!
