Grandma Rose’s Sore Throat Syrup

As I am still down for the count with a nasty upper respiratory bug – one that includes a diagnosis of both a sinus infection and bronchitis (as well as a delightful fever) I thought I would post the recipe for something my late grandmother used to make for me when I was young.

1/2 cup fresh squeezed (and strained) lemon juice
1/2 cup honey
1 shot whiskey, brandy, honey liquor etc.

In a small saucepan heat honey and lemon juice together until it blends into an even syrup consistency.

Pour honey-lemon mixture into a heat proof mug.

Add 1 shot of liquor and stir well to incorporate.

Take by teaspoons as needed to soothe a painful sore throat and/or to control a dry cough.

Note: This is a family recipe and is posted for informational and entertainment purposes only. This is not intended to treat any particular illness. Please consult your own medical professional to get an accurate diagnosis and to determine the safety of this “home remedy” for your own situation.

Caution: Alcohol should not be used by children, pregnant women, or those for whom it may aggravate a chronic health condition.

Herbal Cold & Flu Remedies

Well the bug that Princess Nature shook off for the most part after a day home from school resting has apparently taken up a nice cozy residence in my lungs. I was only able to make i through 5 hours at work as my voice gave out and all the talking for my telemarketing job kept triggering my cough.

In that spirit, this week’s Pagan Video Tuesday is a collection of videos that relate to making herbal remedies for colds and flu.

Stay well

Care for some herbal cough syrup or garlic oil?

How about some Elderberry tincture?

How about making your own decongestant chest rub?

Having a Cold Makes Me Cranky

I have spent the last few days rather miserable with a head cold/mild sinus infection. I came home from work early yesterday, which I’ll be making up by going in to work on Friday (I hate working 6 day weeks), and surfed the couch until it was time to make dinner. Needless to say I am not feeling particularly witty or inspired but I hope to return to your regularly scheduled programming by the weekend.

In the meantime …

The girls have testing for their orange belts in Tae Kwon Do next weekend.

Miss Artistic got her hair cut last night – first time since August – and what a difference a good shaping makes.

Both girls have eye appointments tomorrow, for Miss Artistic its just a routine annual visit but, for Princess Nibbles its to see if the frequent headaches she’s been getting are vision related before I bring them to the attention of her pediatrician.

I hope to be over this cold/flu/whatever by Saturday so I can do some clutter control in addition to my homework and my usual once-a-week cooking.

May you all have a lovely day!

Blessings
