Odd things just happen

I have always had odd things happening in my life, it’s either gremlins or I’m just completely nuts (or maybe both!) – or perhaps ghosts (who knows?).

This past Monday I had one of the “odd things” happen, so I thought I’d share. Before our vacation on for Thanksgiving I “knew” I was going to lose my work id – how I knew I have no idea. Anyway, before we left I didn’t have time to clean out my purse, sure enough all the extra stuff and the work id came along for the vacation to the beach house.

My purse sat on the night stand of the bedroom and never moved until the day we left and came home – I checked every single day from Wed. to Sunday to make sure the work id was still in it’s little pocket (where I always keep it) – and every day it was still there.

Monday I had off work, in the morning I did some grocery shopping, went to the vet to pick up the kitty where she had been boarded – forgot to check purse. The purse had sat on the back seat of my car for both trips.

Monday night I remembered I hadn’t checked my purse for the work id (and I would need it the next day) – I looked – it was GONE! So I check all over the floor and the couch where the purse had been. I took a flashlight and checked the front and backseat of the car. Unable to find it, I stated firmly to whoever or whatever, “I really need the work id back, now”. Then I “knew” – it was under the driver’s seat in the car. I looked, sure enough it was there – how it got there I will never know. Perhaps it was grelmins (or Luna Lovegood’s nargles), or a pesky ghost, or I’m losing my mind.

Oh well, at least I found it and didn’t have to rush around like a crazy at the last minute before work the next day.

From the time I was a young teen stuff like this happened, used to be a lot more and now it’s just once in awhile. For example – my toothbrush would always go missing and then turn up in my sneaker or in some weird spot; I’d lose one shoe and it would turn up under my pillow the next day (after I had slept in the bed the night before and KNOW it was not there); lost a brooch (pin) once and checked my coat pockets a million times then two days later reached in my coat pocket and got stabbed by the pin.

Do things like this happen to other folks?

Hunting for Ghosts

Here Ghostie Ghostie…

I managed to stay awake last night and watch one of my favorite shows Ghost Hunters (starring the TAPS (The Atlantic Paranormal Society) team. Grant Wilson had a personal experience in the house they were investigating – he felt a sharp pain on his back and when they checked to see what happened he had a sorta hand print shape mark on his back that was red and scratched. He said it almost felt like “electricity” had hit him.

It’s not concrete evidence, but certainly is something that makes a person go hmmmmm, maybe it was ghost.

As I mentioned in an early post, (Ghost Hunters) about one encounter with a possible haunting I had, I truly believe that ghosts exist and I wish I could go on ghost hunts.

Another possible haunting experience I had was a in house I lived in about 25 years ago. It was located in a medium size city, and was in a neighborhood the city was considering making historic, so it was pretty old. I had rented two spare bedrooms to college students and they were always hearing footsteps above in the attic. I’m a very sound sleeper so I didn’t hear the footsteps that often – but occassionally I did too. No one was bothered to much by it, unless the footsteps started coming down the attic stairs. Usually who ever heard the footsteps on the steps would immeidately run downstairs (myself included) and somethings out to the porch until the footsteps stopped.

My sister stayed in one of the bedrooms for little awhile and she started yelling for me. As I said I am a sound sleeper – so it took awhile for me to get semi-conscious. I was like, what? go to sleep! She was like “NO WAY GET IN HERE NOW!” So I stumbled down the hallway and she was sitting up in bed with the lights on — and the clothes in the closet were swinging back and forth as if there was a strong breeze in room. I wasn’t half asleep any more that is for sure. I told her to get out of bed and come with me — we sorta backed out of the bedroom and closed the door behind us and crawled under the covers in my room and sat there huddled together watching my bedroom praying what ever it was wouldn’t come down the hall in my room too. (We were all such chickens then hehehe)

Another time I was sound asleep, my bedroom door was open and small night light was on in the hallway. I rolled over, shifted a bit, and opened my eyes the tinest bit — and there was large shadow next to my bed, at first I just said “go away,” and almost fell back to sleep (I really hate being woken up) — but as I layed there it slowly dawned on me — there shouldn’t be a large human figured shaped shadow stanging next to my bed. I peeked just the tiniest bit and sure enough it was still there. I closed my eyes really tight and ducked under the covers (after all covers are magical and can protect us from anything right ???? hehehe). I laid very very still figuring if it thought I was asleep it would just go away.

I’ll post some more about personal experiences later on.

Now when I’m not afarid of things that go bump in the night (as long as I have my blankie with me that is) — not much seems to happen. Oh well, I’m sure eventually I’ll see other signs of ghosts again.

Ghost Hunters

Ghost Hunters (available on dvd)

I’m very excited. Tonight the new season of Ghost Hunters starts, (starring the TAPS team). I really enjoy this show, and oddly enough I enjoy it because they DON’T find ghosts every week, and the few times they do find a bit of “evidence” — they are always very thorough about investigating all the possible non-supernatural explanations.

There are few things that I believe 100% in. I tend to be a “prove it” type of person. But I do believe that the human spirit continues to exist after death. I have had to many personal experiences as well as seen too much evidence, that I have no doubts. Ghost Hunters approaches the subject about as “scientifically” as it can be done, and they are very skeptical. This is the kind of approach I can respect.

In what form a spirit continues to exist on the other side, I don’t know – I tend to agree with most of the other theories out there, (some “ghosts” are just memory imprints and can be seen like a rerun of a film clip; others are more rare – these can communicate and interact with the physical world and seem to have retained their “personality” from their physical life.) Can the spirit communicate with the living? I don’t know, but I am about 98% sure that spirits can communicate with the living, but it depends on the spirit and the living person.

My first encounter with a spirit was when I was 13. I was living at a catholic boarding school. A bunch of us were in the recreation room watching tv (not a horror movie). Something caught my attention out of the corner of my eye, and I turned to see the image of a nun (transparent and floating) slowly coming out of the closet (through the door that was closed) and starting to cross the room. As I was staring at it, the rest of the girls started screaming and running downstairs. A few moments later I realized I was alone, and got my wits together and ran downstairs too. Everyone was telling the same details of what they had seen — that out of the closet came a transparant, floating nun, young, slowly crossing the room.

There were other various “sightings” of different odd things from others over the next three years I was there — like a ghostly hand coming up from behind a headboard and leaving an imprint on the pillow when it slammed down. However, there was only two other “sighting” that I had first hand experience with.

A small group of us were walking at night down the long, winding road that led down the hill that school was on top of. About half way, we all noticed a man on a horse up in the trees. However, there was no path there, there was no sound, and he and the horse were completely transparent and whitish. We ran really fast back to the dormitories. Afterwards, we did a little investigating about the history of the school and found out that the man who had owned the property (and left it to the church) had kept horses and eventually we did find a run down old stable back in the woods.

The other experience was odd, but not sure I can say it was a “ghost.” It was during another walk down the hill, only this time it was on the back road. It was a very foggy night, and the mist hung in branches of the trees but the road itself was clear. As we walked, there appeared a patch of fog in the middle of the road. We continued to walk, but the fog seemed to move closer towards us. We stopped, turned and started walking back up the road. The cloud of fog got a bit larger and seemed to sway from side to side along with us as we zig zagged up the road to see what the fog would do. As we walked faster, it seemed to get faster and closer, until we were definitely sure it was thicker and larger then it was when we first saw it and was definitely showing signs of “following” us. We decided running was the best thing to do.

From these experiences and others I’ve had throughout my life, as well as my interest in various other spiritual and psychic subjects, I have always wanted to go ghost hunting. Not seances, or channeling, or psychics — but real ghost hunting with equipment and like-minded skeptical people. I do believe that there are some people who can communicate with spirits, some who are psychic and can channel — I can respect their work and their messages from beyond, however, no matter how convincing, sincere, or even truly gifted a person is in this matter — it still can not be taken as “evidence.” I have had many experiences with dreams, meditations, and other psychic work that has been very accurate and rewarding. However, even though I may have experienced something myself or seen someone else experiencing it, it is still subjective, and can not be duplicated or shared with someone else other then to relay the information, but the experience itself is still a personal one.

The Ghost Hunters tv show and TAPS website satisfy my urge to investigate the paranormal in a scientific manner, from the comfort of my living room, without spending long hours up all night recording, followed by the even longer hours of reviewing hours of footage on audio and visual tape. Perhaps some day when I retire I’ll be able to find a group of professional ghost hunters near me and finally have the time to experience a ghost hunt first hand.

Until then, I’ll watch Ghost Hunters and continue to keep an eye out for the ghost(s) or entity that moves the statue of Isis I have in the curio cabinet and who keeps taking things from time to time — though when I put my foot down and ask for something back it usually returns it within a day or two (more about that another time).
