Back From Maryland

Well we made it.

We drove down Friday, leaving a little later than I had originally hoped. With a meal and potty break at a rest stop, a small snarl of traffic, and a bit of a “getting lost” mishap when we tried to get off the road briefly to find a McDonalds it took us 4 hours.

Our friend “E” was excitedly waiting for us and we visited briefly before retiring before each heading off to our respective beds, “E” even gave up her bed so that Gamer Dude and I could sleep in comfort.

We woke up early on Saturday and were greeted with French press coffee and breakfast casserole. We quickly decided to head out to the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History, but after our day there (details and pics to come) walked across the Mall so that we could take photos of the Washington Monument and the White House and found some other surprises as well.

We came home, significantly later than expected, and “E” borrowed our children and the three of them whipped up a wonderful Indian meal for dinner – my children were thrilled to be eating dinner at such a late hour.

Sunday dawned and after breakfast we headed out to the Maryland Renaissance Festival. What a wonderful day! The weather was perfect and the site was beautiful.

We each came home with a little something (I was spoiled!) and before we knew it, it was time to leave. We took “E” out for dinner to a great little Thai place she recommended (leaving her with the leftovers) and had a lovely time swapping spoonfuls of our dishes and tasting a little of everything.

Driving home went a little easier. We only stopped once (for a potty break) and had to take a detour to avoid a traffic jam, but still made it home in just over 3 hours.

We hope to make this trip an annual event, though next year we will hit a different museum and maybe even extend our stay a bit so that we can see some other sites in DC as well.

I am sore and achy and tired but it was oh so worth it.

Blessings!
