Are You Ready for More Witches on Television?

I had a different video picked for this week’s Pagan Video Tuesday feature. But I stumbled on this preview of a new show set to air on ABC this fall here in the States and wanted to be able to highlight this in a timely fashion.  And while I enjoyed the movie upon which it is based, Eastwick looks like it may follow the theme of Witches being associated with Satan.

“In the seaside village of Eastwick, three very different women are about to discover some bewitching talents they never knew they had. And once they get together– watch out. Something wicked is coming their way.”

All I can hope is that they hold true to the spirit of the movie that I enjoyed, that the power these women had came from within themselves, from the union of friendship they shared, and not only allowed them to banish evil from their lives but stayed with them after it had departed.

It will be airing Wednesday, September 23 at 10:00 PM.  I plan to tune in, how can I not?  Anyone else planning on joining me?

Loving the Canadian Fandoms, I had heard about this. Watching the preview all I can think is: A mountie is the devil?!?!?

I will definitely be giving it a try though.

I’ll probably watch it. Another show…Legend of the Seeker portrays witches as powerful fighters for the underdog and against evil, unfortunately most of them get wiped out halfway through the first season.

I have seen the trailers also – been trying to decide whether to watch or not. I loved the movie – not too sure if they can sustain the premise for a series – will probably watch at least the first two or three to see -

For a most annoying and disturbing trend — check out the “witch” on the HBO series “True Blood” — turns out that the god she worships is a bloody one — and is the devil (but started out as Pan) Yet another warning slap to the Pagan community! During ceremonies she dressed as a bear.

Sounds like it should be good. I couldn’t help but notice some traces of ‘Charmed’ which I loved. Unfortunately I live in England and won’t be able to watch the premiere. I do hope you will be posting about it though. I really am interested.

    Thanx.

I’ll watch the first episode just to see how they’re actually going to dumb it down and eff it up, my foregone conclusions.

Our Canadian boy – Paul Gross – how can I not watch, even if it’s not so great.

Another re-make I’ll be tuning in for, is “V” – a remake of that campy 80′s alien-invasion series I loved so much as a kid.

Wonder why there’s no original ideas though…

I figures its worth a try. I agree with you though, I’d much rather have seen something totally unique come on TV

Yeah, we watch True Blood and Im not too happy with how much theyve changed from the books. One thing that the original author was very clear about was the positive aspects of the Wiccan faith.

My little witchlet watches True Blood. She’s really into the whole vampire thing but, personally, I don’t get this show at all. Tara and Lafayette are pretty good characters though. I like watching them.
